Could it be the crankshaft position sensor??? Please Help

Hi guys, My 03 CLK55 has been running a little rough. Just the other day I was driving and it all of a sudden shut off on me and it said visit workshop. I waited a minute and it came back on. Its been laggy when I accelerate and also when I start it up it would just crank and then start up after a few tries. I read that it can either be the MAF or the Crank Position Sensor. I read that a way you can check if it's the MAF is to unplug and start it up, if it still runs the same then its not it. Well, I did that and it still ran the same and still had the starting issue. Can it be a crank position sensor? Also, Is this the crankshaft position sensor? If so, if i take it out would any fluids come out from there?

Thanks for any replies

Based on the 3th pics, I can see the belt and so the answer is no. The crank position sensor is in the back of the engine and by the tranny and engine jointed. Just do a search........there's alot of pictures of it.

Rich, you probably saw my reply on the other forum, but that is the Camshaft Postion (a.k.a. Camshaft Hall) sensor.

I know this sound very mean but............we got a great "search" feature here but people just does know/want to use it. Here's is my search............... Based on the 3 pics in the link, I can see the valve cover breather hose and fuel line, so it on the drive back side of the engine.

Crank Pos Sensor is on the back drivers-side of the engine. Some have changedit from underneath the car, and I changed mine from the top side.

You can get a new one from Autohauz in AZ online for about $50.

Use the search for CPS in this forum and the C55 forum...... you will find what you need to do the job. It took me about 1 hour to pull mine and 1.5 hrs to install the new one.

GL. I keep a spare in the trunk just in case.

hey guys. at first it had a crank issue, where when i shut the car off after driving it and the try to start it agian it would just crank. after a few tries it would then start. i was told its the crank shatf position sensor. i had that changed and still have the problem. the car does run rough and very laggy especially when accelerating. it threw up a code p0102 which is the mass air flow sensor. its saying low input. so i replaced the maf sensor as well and i still have the same issue. what could it be?

Did you get a real BOSCH sealed in the bag MAS or a cheapo ebay special? There are seller on ebay re-selling used BOSCH MAS's........ make sure it comes in the bag/box new sealed from the factory. Assuming the new MAS is good..... make sure all hoses and the MAS is all attached with no loose connections.

You might try to disconn battery for 20min...... then let car re-learn.

so yesterday when i put in the new maf and still had the same problem i put the old one back in. i was told to have the battery disconnected for at least 20 min which i didnt. so today i disconnected the battery put the new maf back in and started the car up. i let it warm up then took it around the block. i stalled on me once and gave me the starting issue. it finally started back up and i drove it home. i was no where near laggy as it was yesterday but still have the starting issue and it still stalled on me. the check engine light didnt come on. so im gonna drive it tomorrow to see if it comes on.

what should i do?
