2007 CLK 350 Cabriolet
Adding NAV and iPhone capabilities to CLK

About to buy a 2007 CLK Cabriolet. It has the Harmon audio system but no navigation unit. Would like to add both navigation capabilities and Bluetooth iPhone integration.

At first, I was thinking I'd just find a used OEM nav unit somewhere, have it installed, and then be done, but this does not take care of the Bluetooth iPhone stuff, right? Seems like you need a separate aftermarket kit for that. Buying both the nav unit and a kit starts to get pricey.

Then I noticed this Pioneer nav unit: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...on/AVIC-Z130BT

It looks great and is available for about $750 new right now. Am I correct in assuming this would take care of both navigation and iPhone integration in one purchase? Also lets you do nice things like speak addresses to the nav and stream Pandora wirelessly.

The only downside seems to be that it's really expensive to install. Since the CLK has fiber optic connections, you have to buy a new amp and a few other parts to get it to work. My local installer (who was selling the unit for $1100) quoted me $2500 for everything including install. Is this the best option?

Also, does this void an aftermarket warranty I will probably be purchasing?

You CAN drop in a refurb factory COMAND and have a tighter integrated system. We do a few of those a week locally, and IMHO is a much better option for so many reasons, including:
Resale value,
warranty,
tighter integration,
cosmetics,
service work (many dealerships will refuse to work on electrical issues of any kind if it has an aftermarket system in it)

Some people do not like the factory navigation. I like it a lot. It is really just learning it, and being used to one kind of system or another.

2007 CLK 350 Cabriolet
Thanks, so two questions then:

1. Where is the best place to find refurbs? eBay?

2. If I go this route, is it a pretty cheap install? Couple hours?

CLK 240 - 2003
This can help related to Audio, Ipod & Navi:
http://www.mercupgrades.com/W209+CLK-class-6.html

Iphone & Ipod Solution:
http://www.mercupgrades.com/Mercedes...rticle-52.html

Other than having an aftermarket solution, can the unit be worked through the steering wheel? (if yes & applicable then go for an aftermarket else, like anyone else, go get a Command 2.5 & pay the price )Good luck

Refurbs are easy to get for less than 1k. Install is all of about 30 minutes or less.

while you weigh your head unit options, Bluetooth might be easier than you think. Is there a gizmo in the console that looks like this:

If so, all you need is the Bluetooth puck, widely sold in the classified forums for $125 shipped or so, though an eBay seller has them updated to work more fully with iPhones for $150 or so.

If you don't have that puck connector, you're looking at about $500 and 1-2 hours for OEM Bluetooh install, irrespective of OEM headunit.
