I bought that kit and it was crapola........ cheap plastic rubber cf stick-on...... the fit was not right and it was real thick, so you saw the original finish underneath and the on the sides.
Not appropriate for a benz, a mazda perhaps, not a benz.
I threw mine in the garbage.

To Eddieo45, I imagine FX quoted you big $$$ to wrap it in real CF or else you wouldn't be looking at this trim. Could you PM me what they quoted you?

no, I didn't get quotes from anyone. MBenz did a nice DIY a while ago but I don't think I've got the patience, eye, and steady hands to do the job. This eBay kit looked interesting 'cuz it's all pre-cut pieces, and I think it's real CF, no? Isn't FX another vinyl product?

you wouldn't think that manufacturing a decent CF-overlay kit would be such an ordeal. I was looking at the back cover of my Blackberry, how thin it is, and how well-designed it is to attach to the phone. Mine is textured to look like CF:

...but I've seen plenty of different styles:

How hard can it be for some Taiwanese (or other) manufacturer to make parts designed to "hug" to wood trim with little tabs on one or more sides? The ashtray cover, window switches and shift surround could clip on all around, while the pieces with chrome trim (i.e. upper door, climate control, aux button row) could clip on the non-chrome side and snug up against the chrome. What could it cost to manufacture, $30? $50? I know I'd pay $200-$300 for something that looks good, goes on easy and can be removed easy (no adhesive.)

You really think not? I've seen so many threads about vinyl wrap, and, while many of the results look great, there seem to be plenty of us that want the look but either don't have the hand/eye patience or don't want vinyl adhered to our OEM wood (or both.) Granted, the setup cost to knock off a spoiler or bumper lip is likely less, but the potential upside here...? I don't have any Asian manufacturing contacts, but if I did, I bet it would be worth sending them an OEM wood trim set to work with.

Never been a fan of adhesive overlay, it never looks right and it always lifts away from the corners on curved pieces over time.

well, the seller sent me a sample, and I'm both impressed and disappointed.![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v115/eddieo45/utf-8BSU1HLTIwMTExMTE0LTAwMTA5LmpwZw.jpg)
It's real CF, but the adhesive it's bonded to pretty much doubles the thickness of it, as betrezra stated before. Hard to photograph, but I peeled a corner of the adhesive back:

It's a real shame, as the quality of the piece is amazing.....I would think there'd be a pretty big market for a thin, rigid, moulded CF or aluminum trim kit that would snap on or stick on. Heck, it could be laminate for all I care, like Formica! What do I know? If MBWorld sponsor JBSpeed doesn't offer the $110 painted roof spoiler for W209 maybe there isn't that big of a market....
