Improving radio reception using other antennas
#29
Any chance anyone knows which wire powers the antenna amp in a 2010 GL450? I tried buying StarTek for a day which was a waste of my time and money. I have the adapter connected in my car, but radio reception is horrible which I am sure form the antenna not being powered. Please help if you can... I am attaching a pic of the plug that I think has the wire in it somewhere. Thanks!

Do you have an aftermarket radio? If so, you need to make sure you connect the radio's power antenna output to the vehicle's wiring harness lead for the antenna. Otherwise, the antenna amp gets no power.

I understand that. I installed a complete system with amps in the vehicle, and found out about the amp in the forum. Problem is, nobody can tell which wire in the harness needs to be powered by my remote wire to get the antenna amp to power up.

Did you use an aftermarket wiring harness connector? If so, it's documentation should indicate. If not, this may help:

I will have to find out if my factory GPS antenna was used. Mostly all aftermarket head units come with one that can easily be hidden so I would think the supplied antenna is normally used.

Per the thread, I went back to using the stock radio antenna when I found the 12V ACC wire that activated the car's stock radio antenna; the result was that the car's OEM antenna was much better than the aftermarket antennas that I was running. If possible, I advise to try to use the stock radio antenna by finding the 12V ACC wire in your ML, however I'm not familiar with the w164 chassis so I wouldn't know where to look.
