Chrome on shifter and cup holder chipping
My 2007 Cab is recently out of warranty and I've noticed that the plasticy chrome stuff on the automatic shifter and the cup holder is chipping away. I've read a few posts about this from owners of other Benz models but it doesn't seem like a widespread problem. Is it? I bought an aftermarket warranty from National which does include some "wear and tear" items. Not sure if it would cover this.
What's the best option for replacing these two items? Junkyard search?

Mine is chipping too, is that stuff covered under factory warranty? If so I need to get it replaced.

I think it's covered under the original warranty, but not most extended warranties. It's real chrome. Trying to adhere real metal to a plastic base is going to have issues. Metal and plastic do not naturally adhere to each other.

I actually have somewhat of the same issue and wonder if anyone can help me out. I do have the chips on the logo on the shift knob as well however also on the 2 vents right above the dashboard. The part im referring to on the vent is the one used to adjust the direction of air flow, it has a small chrome line. Is there anyway to just replace the two central vents?

I just popped off the shifter and the chrome ring around the cupholder and painted them with glossy black touch-up paint from an auto supply store. Looks perfectly fine now. Not quite as nice as the original chrome, but for $6 instead of $340, I'll take it. Took me about 20 minutes total. I don't think I would do this with larger pieces of chrome on the dash, but for the shifter ring and the cupholder ring, you can't even tell anything was ever amiss.
