Location of Sub in convertible?

Is the Bose subwoofer/amp located between the rear seats of the convertible where the two holes are?
If yes, can an aftermarket sub be put there?
If I replace my stereo with an aftermarket one, I'd prefer not to use valuable trunk space for the replacement subwoofer...

Certainly the HK sub is mounted there so I presume the Bose was too

Seems that Bose was similarly located in CLK Cab. I'm sure you could engineer an aftermarket sub into the same space.

Only the passenger side hole is live - the other is a dummy. The subwoofer itself is actually inside a big plastic box below and behind the armrest. See that curved peice in this picture below the armrest and between the seat belt buckles? That is an empty decorative shell that clips onto the front of the subwoofer box. It's all one piece with the long piece with the holes in the end. To remove it you remove the lower seat cushions, then there are just two nuts to remove and the whole thing just pulls out.

Thanks for info above. Has anybody here done this? Used the old space for new sub.

I have never seen it in the year+ I've been reading the forums. Usually it's a trunk mount of some kind in the coupes. Try a few google searches on subwoofer and clk cab or convert and you'll probably find any that any exist. I'm clueless on the size options for aftermarket subwoofers, but for one to fit in the original box, it would need to fit in roughly half a shoebox. Beyond that you'd be doing some modding.

Your best option is to take the one out of your car and open up the box and look inside and see how it's set up and measure the insides. Literally a 10 minute job to get it out, and it would be a 5 minute job if it wasn't such a pain to get the little plastic covers off that cover the four nuts that hold the lower seat cushions on without breaking them. You put a small screw driver in the half round hole in the bottom and fish around until you push a little locking tab up while gently pulling out on the cover. Once you get one off and see how they work the rest are easy. No need to remove the seat back. Just wiggle the whole thing free. You can get that box out quicker than you can change your air filters.

I'm not very happy with the stock nav (pre-facelift); and would love to get an aftermarket nav with a amp/sub hidden away and doesn't take away any trunk space. We'll see...

new location

depending on what size sub you want to use...I used an 8" JL mounted in the passenger side floor board.

take out the floor mat, pull the carpet down from the fire wall.
this should expose a black piece of foam board, pull it out
you then should see a metal plate that covers a larger than expected opening
\
a shop in atlanta showed me this then built a custom sub enclosure to fit down there. they did away with the faom and metal plate. the sub grill served as the support for the carpet and mat. PM me your email address and i can send you a few pictures of the install

Sent you PM.
Yes I'm curious to see pics and it would be helpful to take pics to shop to help explain what I might want.
Thanks.

Aha, I was wondering about that. I have the H-D system and was wondering if the PO had gotten something stuck inside

If you stick your fingers in there about as far as they will go you can feel it's just closed off.
