Clk500 purchase
Thinking about getting a 03 clk500 for $8700 fully loaded nav push button silver and black leather with 137k miles anything specific to look for with this many miles or should I just stay away
#2
I just bought a 03 clk500 for $18,500 that had 34k miles. I saw $8700 and I was like WTF?!? Then I saw the miles. It is hard to judge the condition of clks because the thing is covered in plastic. Unless they let you take it apart, more than likely you won't be able to see any small oil leaks. There is also a common problem with the engine mounts that make the engine sound like it has piston slap (sounds like a diesel engine). I noticed it after my purchase and found out what it was on here. Also if you are a DIYer, they have 16 spark plugs, just something to think about maintance wise.

Yeah I kno with that many miles the car won't be perfect I have no problem putting another $3000 into car to get perfect plan on keeping it for 2-3 years it's either this or a 00 cl500 with 108k miles but needs $1500 think this is a better buy due to abc issues

Like with any second/third/fourth hand car purchase - get it inspected first.

FYI, there is no such thing as "key activation". Keys come pre-programmed from the factory with MBZ's proprietary coding. If a key doesn't work, then it's toast and has to be replaced. The battery in the key fob itself has nothing to do with its ability to start the vehicle - it's only used for the remote control locking functions (well, and KeylessGo). If you insert the key into the ignition switch and it doesn't turn, then that key is no good and there is nothing the dealer can do to fix that except replace it with a new key.

You could have a non keyless go key. The keyless go keys are like $275. Maybe the old owner ordered the non ones because they were cheaper?

Or you may have a bad receiver. My keyless go would stop working randomly, but the buttons on th eremote worked to unlock and they key worked if inserted. Bad reciever located in driver's door that controls the whole system replaced under warranty.

Bad receiver sounds like the issue the guy told me he paid like $275 for the new key and I have the original key which only started car until I changed the batteries

I don't think you can even order a non-KeylessGo SmartKey for a KeylessGo vehicle. Keys are ordered by VIN and pre-programmed. The factory knows what key goes with what vehicle. I don't think there are any fuses specific to KeylessGo. Also, when you press the START button, does it say "Key not Detect" on the MFD?
