Keyless go stopped operating convertable top
Hi everyone we have a 2008 clk 550 cabroliet with AMG package.
The keyless go "fob" was raising and lowering the convertable top.
Then today it quit working for that function only.
All of the rest of the fob's functions work as they should. I have tried all of the usual aiming it at the door handle and proximity postions without any results.![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
Any idea's? Thanks

2007 CLK 550 Cab
My 2007 550 with AMG package had the exact same problem on the driver's side only. It was the sensor in the door that was the problem. Hopefully you have an extended warranty.

Well imagine that?
Well I had replaced the battery's in one of my fobs just a little over a month ago. But after reading your reply's I decided to replace them again. And now it works the top function just fine.
The fobs would operate everything but the top at a good distance before. But not the top even standing with the fob right at the handle as instructed. But after putting new batteries in both fob's now it works as it's supposed to. I wouldn't have thought the batteries would get that weak in just a little over a month but they did. Maybe it was because we leave the keys in our pockets for the keyless go?? Maybe it uses them up more that way than putting them in the ignition swich?
OH Well I learned something from you guy's !
Thanks again for the help.

Having KeylessGo functionality will definitely drain the battery faster. I still suspect your IR sensor on the door handle is going bad. It probably takes a very strong signal for it to respond and that's why new batteries fixed it. If you like opening the top remotely, you might want to invest in a SmartTop. It's the best car mod I've ever installed.

Thanks Rodney. I'll have to look into that. It is still working but it quit a couple of times in the middle of the process. I pushed down on the trunk lid and it started again and finished. There is a little bit of play in the lock and latch on the trunk, I am going to adjust it. Maybe that's part of it. But I would think that if the trunk safety relay switch is tripping because of the loose latch why wouldn't it stop the top operation when I do it from the inside control also ?? It alway's works on that one. Thanks for your help I'm leaning toward the idea that the door handle sensor is going bad like you said.

If it is the trunk latch, you'll get a warning message on the MFD. I still say save your money and time trying to fix the IR sensor and just get a SmartTop. You won't regret it! Not only does it use RF instead of IR signaling, you can open and close with one touch (instead of press and hold) of the console switch, plus you can open/close up to 25mph.
