200,000 mile check up

Ok guys my 2003 clk has crossed the 200,000 mile mark. Is there anything specific I should be fixing/chexking or should I use the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality and just wait until a problem arises?

I drive the racism out of BadDebt. ;)
Definately check the following:

waterpump
thermostat
CPS sensor
suspension bushings (thrust)
flushing all fluids (diff,trans,engine)

Those would be my top 5.

The official maintenance manual can be found here at MBUSA.COM:

2003 CLK Maintenance Manual

Just a few things to consider:

Every 100K = replace spark plugs
Due at 150K = Coolant flush (did it get done then?)
Every 50K Miles = Check driveshaft flex disks, replace if showing signs of wear or cracks Every 50K = Retighten steering gear bolts

Not in the manual is to service the transmission by replacing fluid and filter. MBZ recommends a one-time 39K service on the 722.9 7-speed, but other than the extra gears, it's no different than the 722.6 5-speed, so it's easy to infer that it needs service too. The only reason there is no recommended service on the 722.6 is because it was sold as "sealed for life" and MBZ doesn't want to stir up that wasp nest by going back on the claim. Having said that, and having seen the condition of the fluid after 39K miles, I would change the fluid and filter EVERY 39K.

My w209 is high mileage as well. I don't think I ever changed the flex disks. What symptons would I have if these flex disks are defective?

The flex disks take the place of U-joints on the driveshaft. They allow a slight amount of flex plus add vibration dampening. Bad flex disks will break and fall apart and then "really bad things" happen to the drive shaft. Just check them every 50K and when you see cracks or a deformed shape, replace them. They are around $100 per set (one front, one rear).

lowpost, why the EIS replacement? I remember the front SAM was because of electrical gremlins. Was the EIS involved in that, too?

My shop said code errors pointed to an eis replacement before the sam. Subsequently my car was at the dealer for the fuel pump and they said the eis was still shooting off errors so replaced it again (part warranty). Then my car had issues initializing with the keys and the new eis, so then had to get new keys. I'm still in my loaner - glk.
