Check with a MBZ dealer - they can pull a VMI report to see all the work done at authorized service centers. I suspect if it had been repaired, it would have been through a dealer.

hello Rudeney!

I'm afraid i have the same problem as mentioned on several posts.. fault codes P0016; P0017
I've ridden almost all posts about these issue and it's clear for me that i'm in trouble (as i have no any waranty and i'll have to pay for repairs) becouse of my impressive C230 V6 2.5L 2007. The thing is, I bought my car in USA on auction and it was delivered 2 weeks ago with CHECK ENGINE light on; yes, "i'm lucky" ..
by the way, i live in Batumi, Georgia, near Black Sea.
I found some information on russian pages also, they mention about the Part Number for Repair Kit(ful set) as well, please check if possible for you, or i'm getting comfused - http://www.drive2.ru/users/zark

As i was explained it's much better/cheaper to buy full set, than to buy separately, as the cost goes too high. Could you please advice where can i buy this kit with a cheapest price??

@Miro: I have no clue of where to get parts in Georgia. In the USA, I always recommend parts.com for discounted OEM parts, but I am sure they will not ship overseas.


@Kada598: WDBRF54H47A936256 has M272 engine #452223, which is within the range for potential balance shaft problems.

Is it possible that it could be toward the end of the range and be less likely to have the shaft problem?

Hello fellow Benz Guru's.
Is my benzo in the affected range? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Light just came on firing P0016 and P0017 just bought care, 116kms on it, and looks like all wiring or quick fixes have been done.

All MBZ builds are recorded in their EPC (Electronic Parts Catalog) system. There are a few ways to access EPC. One is through an online subscription. Another is through a local installed copy of EPC (which is what I have, as part of the Chinese clone version of SDS I have and it's good through MY2011). and another is through some online services, like this one (it's in Russia, just use Google Chrome and it will auto translate):

These systems can give you the entire "Data card" which shows all optiosn plus engine and transmission serial numbers.

Error codes P0016, P0017 - Are these codes (problems) appears on 2005 c230 kompressor engines also? or it is common problem on m272 engines only?

I don't believe you will ever see P00016 or P0017 on an M271 engine (1.8l I4 Supercharged int he MY2005 C230). The balance shaft issue is definitely not a problem with the C230 Kompressor - it only affects the V6 M272 and V8 M273 engines.

Great news for me. Say truly i have no time for Headaches, i'll just sell my car with a cheaper price and will get 2005 C230 Kompressor.

I hope M271 engine is more reliable and will not give as big problems as M272.. Am i true?

The M271 engine has a single row timing chain and some have reported this being more problematic, though it is a fairly easy replacement if that is a concern (remove the valve cover, then splice and draw in the new chain). There have also been some anecdotal reports of heads warping, but nothing as common as reports of balance shaft failures on the M272. Also, the supercharger has a lifespan of about 100K miles. It's also an fairly easy DIY, and you should be able to find rebuilt units for a reasonable price. Overall, I'd say if you want a C230, I'd definitely recommend you get the MY2005 with the 1.8L Kompressor over an M272. Another option might be to look into a CLK. It's basically the same chassis in a nice coupe body. Just avoid the MY2006's and check the My2007's by VIN. Up through MY 2005 they used the M112 V6 which is a great engine, and the M272 in the MY2008 and MY2009s should be fine.

Awesome, Rodney! I will search and check out the cam sensor magnet posts. I did have the cracked 3rd tail light which the Dealer charged me labor for after discussion on the defect... Any other items I should be aware of? First time on the forum after owning the car for 4 years, great information!

Also after removing the air cleaner assembly to check on the cam plugs, I got a P2190 System too rich at idle Bank2. After installing new CAM plugs I made sure that the air cleaner assembly was put back tightly by pressing and pounding on it a few time. I also have strong gas smell from time to time, which maybe another symptom of this, however the P2190 error only happened after I remove the air assembly to view the CAM plugs.

Again, I appreciate your assistance!

Thanks a lot for the clear and detailed information you typed for me (and for others as well). As i said before i was going to sell my C230 2007- and i've sold it already without any repairs and headaches, for 9500$ and i'm really happy with it. So, now it's time to get C230 2005 (i want sedan anyways).
Of course i wish to have MY 2008-9 but my budget mmmh..... will think about it for the end of next year
