I just bought this C350 and according to carfax report Camshaft adjuster solenoid was replaced at 95k. Is it something related with this problem? The car now has 112k . what are symptoms for balance shaft issues?

I think the solenoid's reporting issues is a sign that your starting to have balance shaft issues. I don't know how they're linked but my car reported bad solenoids (two at the same time, then one of the replaced ones again a few weeks later) just before it was determined I had the balance shaft issue. Coincidence?
Also, although my car was done years ago now I just received the class action lawsuit paperwork in the mail a few weeks ago.. From reading it, it looks like they're taking care of all cars whether their out of warranty or not. Let me say, if they are indeed taking care of people then in my opinion its worth buying a car that hasn't had it done yet. Why? Because they have to remove the engine and in doing so ALL of the liquids.. Your basically getting a full 100k mi service done for free, change the spark plugs and your all set.

The class action settlement will only pay a percentage of the repairs. If the repair has already been performed and you paid for it out of pocket, then you may get a percentage of that back from MBUSA.

All MY2006's with the M272 enigne (as in your CLK280) will be "in the range" for potential balance shaft failure. Only MY2007 needs to be checked as it was fixed midway through that build cycle.

I am looking at buying C230 with 87,000 miles for $10.777. Are there other issues I should be aware of. What used models are looking like they may go higher miles. I am willing to go as high as $20.000 plus for later model and lower mileage. My 1999 C230 went 225 K miles and was relatively hassle free. Any suggestions?
