WSJ article on overpaying for CLK320

I don't have the online version but there's an article in today's Wall Street Journal that lists cars that consumers are willing to pay above stickers for. CLK was mentioned in both the article and listed at $800 above sticker. It is one of the lowest on the list. Viper came in tops at $7,000 above.

I'm just glad to live in Cali where there's enough dealers out there in both major areas (LA and Bay Area) that I do not have to pay sticker or worse, mark-up.

Well, FYI, Simonson in Santa Monica, CA has a silver CLK500 Cab on the floor with a mark up of $7100. I would imagine it can be negotiated, but I wouldn't give them the pleasure of my business. Most places I have been to around L.A., want some mark up. (Mike Sullivan at Penske in Covina is a straight shooter -- there is NO mark up).

Slk 230 & CLK500
Well I got my 2003 CLK500 Coupe 3 weeks ago & got $3300 off list but the total saved was $4020 since it was a European delivery by the dealer directly to the dealer so I saved the $720 destination charge also. Guess I got a good deal. Options are cd changer & the sunroof/rear shade package.

Here in Bay Area

The dealers I dealt with are giving discounts for both 2003 and 2004 CLK320 Coupes and there should be no mark up with the Cabs. Then again, I was only interested in the coupe so did not really get into the details for the cab.

When I went in to buy my 03 CLK 500, the salesman said they were really hot selling cars and that I should expect to pay more than sticker price. I told him that if he expected me to pay more than sticker price, then he should also expect me to walk out the door. As I stood up, he said that he could probably work something out with his manager....thought so.

You tell 'em!

Good for you! 2 dealers here (Bay Area) wanted MSRP and I said bye. You are right about how the CLKs are hot selling in general but with the number of dealers in the two major Cali cities and surrounding areas, why would I buy from a particular dealer if they are all charging MSRP? They know it and most are quick to offer something right away.

I was lucky. To make a long story short, I was about to order a Z4 (stupid at the time) till 24 hrs before going to the BMW dealership, my co-worked told me about the new CLK. Without any research, I went straight to the MB dealership. When he asked what I wanted to pay, I threw out $1500 off MSRP and he immediately accepted. That led me to believe I screwed up and went to another dealership the next day and got a better discount. By the way, it is a 320.

2004 C32 AMG
Here in STL, not a bunch of people have MB's. As far as my experience went, I ordered an 03 CLK 320 Coupe in March and expected delivery date was late May. A 320 came in before mine was delivered in April only missing the K4 package, so they just installed the Xenons w/o the stupid headlight washer system thingy.

I paid 2% below dealer cost because my grandpa is a retired Chrysler employee. Pretty cool huh? You have to sign something that says you won't sell for an entire year, but that's about it. When I go to trade in my CLK in a year or so, I'll get MORE then I paid.

Yes, it's pretty freakin' sweet!
