2005 CLK320 Shaking when creeping in drive and reverse
So, the car is shaking when you are in drive or reverse and you slightly let go of the brake and creep. This usually happens at stop lights. Sometimes the shaking gets so bad and hits a perfect pitch and makes your head bobble back.
I took it to a indy and he thought it was the motor mounts. He changed the motor and tranny mounts and it made no difference. I asked if it could be the maf and he said there were no codes to make him think anything wrong with the engine or exhaust system. He then said the shaking was normal when creeping, I said no, so he took out the mounts and put the old ones back in.
I took out the maf myself based on a guide I found and cleaned it with maf cleaner. While cleaning, I noticed a brown rubber like square border type ring on the maf was cracked. Can this cause the symptom (and not be enough to cause error codes or cel?)
Also, any suggestions on getting this shaking fixed? I've read it could be build up in the cylinders, spark plugs, coils, maf.... Also, there was shaking before but that was because of bent wheels and it went away after I got the wheels straigtened. I don't think this is tires/wheels because sometimes it will shake before the car even moves.
BTW, I attached a picture of a maf that shows the brown rubbel seal ring thing. Mine would look the same but cracked.

There is an excellent chance that it is the MAF
Check Plugs, coilpacks & wires
Check all breathers & EGR circuit for blockage.
Check vacuum lines for leaks.
If all else fails check the throttle body.
Good luck!
Thanks for the list of suggestions. Probably going to take it to the dealer and see what they say.
I also ran it to near empty and put in a new tank of 91 gas from shell hoping maybe it was bad gas or something. No change though.

Don't try to save a couple bucks and buy those cheap MAF on Ebay. It does not work !!!!!!!!!!! Buy OEM MAF ONLY.

Thanks for all the advice and support. Car is back and smooth as silk. The dealership ended up changing all the spark plugs and a couple wires. There was no cel ever and the SA claims there were some misfire codes (although indy's machine never picked these up). I guess the crack in the maf seal is superficial enough not to be causing the shaking.
I hope this thread helps other owners. Even though the car is 7 years old, its still a benz and should run like spec.
Cost was about $800 (after negotiation) for full diagnosis and repair with loaner car for 3 days.
