CLK 2004 pocket under the radio melting.

Hi there. Do you guys know the product code of the clk 500 2004 ( w209) fascia radio panel? I just need to replace mine because the pocket under the radio is like melting. Is it easy to replace? I mean, is the pocket separate from the fascia panel or they are all the same? Can I just take of the pocket and put a new one there?

Regards
Ricardo

Yes, you can replace just the pocket. You'll have to take the console trim out to get to it because you have to pull the radio out (they are screwed together). The part number is A2036830291.

Rodney, another question. Im trying to locate the engine number because I need to copy the code in a paper. How to do that? Where is it located? Here in Brazil they ask that if you want to transfer the car to another city but I think its impossible to get.

So you need the engine serial number, not the VIN? If you post your VIN, I can look it up in EPC for you.

Actually I know the number. I just need to know where it is located so I can take a picture and also scratch it with a papper and pencil to prove my car got the same engine. Its for our government to sell the car...change the city..etc..

It's etched onto the top edge of the bell housing. If you are standing in front of the car with the hood open and the air cleaner/engine cover removed, look on the back, to your left on the bell housing.

Hi Rodney. I've seen the part A2036830291 is for the W203. Are you sure they are also for my W209?

Yes, there are many parts that crossover between models (especially W203 parts on the W209 - the CLK is based on the C-Class chassis). The radio for the pre-facelift (pre-MY2005) W209 is the same as the pre-facelift W203. Post-facelift radios are not interchangeable because the W209 console is slightly narrower and the radio is not just an insert, but spans the entire distance between the padded parts.

Thanks man! Not sure if you can help me with that but there is also a huge polemic about the navigations for CLK500. Some people say they won't work if the car uses the Bose system ( its my case) because the optic fiber..etc... so the amp won't be compatible. Others say the nav will work but you can't use the original amp. It will work only with the nav internal amplifier. Is it true?

Is this genuine one compatible with my Bose system , I mean, just plug & play?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-C...item337e8a4f3b

What about this one?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ETO-Mercedes...92f16b&vxp=mtr

I mean, if I can't use my original amplifier , I would choose the genuine one if its 100% compatible.

Thanks

Ricardo

I believe you will need a COMAND unit specific to the Bose system. I have heard that all units output low-level audio over the D2B fiber, but I don't know that for a fact. I really don't know much about the aftermarket units. If they do output low-level audio on their fiber connections, then the amp should pick that up. My advice would be to put your money into a good aftermarket system. With a Bose-equipped car, you will need to replace the speakers and run some wire from the dash to your own amp in place of the Bose amp, but I think in the long run, you'll get more features and better sound for less money.

You have to remove the radio. There are several threads on the forum detailing this, including the one I recently posted for the facelift (MY2005+) version.
