MB Fuel Additive

I was int he dealership talking to the parts guy. He recommended a MB fuel additive (part: 000-989-25-45-12), he said this is better than the Chevron. I bought a bottle for $10 and the bottle says "Made in Germany" and it is only 3.4 fl. oz.

I learnt about Chevron Fuel System Cleaner from this forum and I have been using it for the last 3 years.

Did anyone here try this MB fuel additive?

I hate to burst his bubble but it is the same thing. There are only 2 approved systems from Chevron & BASF & they are the same thing. You can buy them as a Benz PN. I'll bet it's more expensive from the dealer.

Glyn Is this the stuff you are taking about using?

If so, how much do you use and how often would you recommend using it?

Yes, that is the stuff.

If you are using tier one fuel then maybe in one tank every 5000 miles. Max gap once every 10K miles.

Not surprised.
Maybe this MB additive is more concentrated. It is only 3.4 oz and it says it will treat 67 liters of gas. Chevron additive is 20 oz and treats similar amount of gas.

I was told that it's best to add this kind of additives before a long trip. The injectors will be cleaned better with a constant flow of fuel. Is this correct?

By the way, my friend has bought me some Chevron Fuel System Cleaner from Autozone (Manchester, NH), $24 for a set of 4. I will get them next week.

No that is wrong. The product works best in in a lot of start, warm up, stop driving. The more heat soak cycles the better it works.

It will still work on a long run but the action is slower. Cleaning injectors is the easy part ~ they build very light deposits & Techron removes them very quickly. Inlet system, valve tulips & combustion chambers are the hard to clean places.

90% of the time when I get gas I fill up at a chevron station and it always says "chevron with techron" Do I still need to put in fuel additive or will filling up with chevron do the same?

Filling up with Chevron will do the same. Giving it a boost with concentrate every now & then will do no harm but if you run Techron fuel all the time it will clean up & keep clean.

Good to know; I will do this for city driving.

The Chevron I used is the fuel system cleaner. Hope it will clean the rest of the fuel system as well.

Glyn, what do you mean by max gap 10K miles?

I'm gonna buy some 20oz bottles. I've never actually used this stuff before on any of our cars.

Also, I usually use Shell, 76/conoco phillips, exxon/mobil (in that order for most often to least often). How often you think I should use it? Also, my father has an 02 CL500 which he just puts Arco/Bp (I always tell him not too, but he says it's all the same). How often would you recommend for that car?
