I think you can go up to 13K - that's the service interval on my cluster. I never would. That would be nearly two years for me. I do it once a year, which is probably about every 8. If I drove more so the time interval was less, I'd probably go 10k, but no more.

I do a engine oil analysis on both the CLK and ML. The lab advised to replace the oil every 5K, so that is my interval.

I change mine according to the service indicator on the MFD - I have done this on every modern MBZ I've owned. I use the recommended Mobil 1 oil and Mann synthetic fleece filter. FYI, if you drive less than 13K miles per year, the MFD will still have you perform a service at least once per year.

Did final Benz CLK's to the US have the service interval reduced from 13K miles to 10K miles like the W204?

Presume you used Blackstone? What were they condemning the oil on? 5K miles is half the recommended interval.

On the 203 forum Mobil 1 0W-40 Euro formulation 229.5 usually looks fine at 13K miles other than having sheared slightly out of grade & become a high 0W-30.

On the oil interval, I am not sure if it was lowered from 13K to 10K. My time usually expires before mileage.

When you say that does time does the cluster read XX Days left ? Mine is reading 7 days left for next service and I only have had maybe 5k miles on it since the last service and that was service B. If thats the case and i just do a reset on the cluster and wait till next time. ?

Yeah, Blackstone. Said something like the TBN value being low (1.6).

Rudeney & I both do low mileage & get counted out on time. I adhere to the time limit which is 1 year in most markets & have the oil changed. Cars that do a lot of short trips can build up high water volumes 7-8% in the oil. It's a good idea to get it out of there if you are not doing sample analysis.

Hmm! Virgin Mobil 1 0W-40 has a TBN of 12.5. I wonder why your result was so low. TBN is the reserve alkalinity in an oil to offset acidic by-products of the combustion process. It is not really of any great consequence with gasoline engines because gasoline contains very little sulphur.

It is of great consequence with diesel engines due to high sulphur levels in diesel fuel.

Correct - when your cluster goes to "days" left instead of "miles", it has realized that you'll get to 365 days before 10K/13K miles. I usually drive less than 10K per year in the CLK, and around 7K in the C, so they both give me "days" not miles. I think I'd follow the MBZ recommendations and do the service even if mileage is very low. Like Glyn said, short distance easy driving typical with low mileage can add a lot of moisture to the oil, so you might as well change it.

Having said that, I think the CLK is going to be right at the miles this time as I've done more driving this last year. I changed jobs last January and added about 30 miles a day to my commute, plus going out to lunch was a longer drive. Luckily, I left that place in November, so my mileage should go back to "normal" this year.
