2005 CLK 320 squeaks when driving over speed bumps?
I just got a 2005 CLK320 coupe with 91,000 miles on it. When I drive over speed bumps without totally slowing down, my car makes a squeaking/creaking noise. It doesn't happen if I slow right down to 0 going over the bumps. What could this be? Anything to worry about? I initially thought it could just be the new tires on it but it sounds like its coming from the front body or wheel well.

Don't feel bad - my '08 does that in cooler weather and started at about 35,000 miles. There are a number of things in the front suspension that can creak under movement. Mine is a bushing that is not actually worn - it was lubed once - but started creaking again when the lube dried out. At your miles you have a greater chance of something being at the end of its life. Won't cost too much to have somebody figure out which part is creaking.

I am thinking about doing this DIY - I think the attachment bolts (for the bushing retainer piece) are a star-type bolt, is that correct?
Also, what's the story on grease? I found this, which makes sense:

If I do this, I will take pics and post some sort of a DIY.

Yes the bolts are "external Torx". You can buy a reasonably priced socket set of these at most auto parts stores. An alternative is the Sears Craftsman "Max Access" set - it has these hard anodized "universal" sockets that fit hex, spline and Torx, plus the ratchet has a unique hollow-body allowing it pass over long bolts so it can work where you'd normally need a deep well. if you are looking for a good excuse to but new tools, this is a good set to have.

2005 CLK320 Cabriolet
I have had squeaking/creaking, almost a cracking noise in my W209 2005 CLK320 cabriolet since about a year after I bought it. I had the dealer fix it, or try to, when under warranty. They never really figured it out for some reason, probably apathy and incompetence.
So I began a search for metal-on-metal marks. I thought I found some along the roof rails(?) along the length of where the roof settles down on the windows. That did not seem to fix the problem.
I also tried putting lubricant (I have used both white lithium grease as well as the spray on teflon lubricants) into the latches for the roof above the windshield, as well as on the latches on the roof mechanism themselves. That was where I thought the noise originated. It always seemed to be coming from front and above me while driving.
That seems to work, and hold up well for about 24 months each time. Purchased the car new in Sep 2004, and have lubed it this way about 3-4 times and it seems to cure the problem. It always manifests itself in cold weather, BTW. Seems I am always lubing it in Dec/Jan here in VA.
Hope that helps. Best thing for me is that it is a zero cost fix, and I don't have to explain to the disinterested dealer service guy what the sound is and when it occurs.
