Ticking voice from the dashboard

Something strange happened yesterday, suddenly while I wasdriving I start hearing a ticking voice coming from the dashboard then I startthinking is it a bomb or … J…and keep ticking and ticking even when I turn off the car andpull out the key, I presume that this ticking comes from the dashboard watch but why it becomeso loud like that? Please let me know if you have any idea of how toinvestigate this voice, is there any specific fuse for the clock? And what elsemay keep ticking even when I turn off the car?

You probably have a broken servo or linkage to a damper control in the ventilation system.

It is usually caused by a broken stepper motor arm. Immediately after shutdown the controls go through a shutdown procedure. Then the ticking should stop. Their are also EGR, emissions & other solenoids in the engine compartment that shut down after switch off.

There is a long sticky on the W203 forum covering the HVAC issues.

Excuse my question but if this noise coming from the steppermotor why it doesn’t stop when I turn off the car and can you please explain the shutdown procedure?

When you shut off the car, the A/C control will adjust the dampers to "outside air" open all the vents. This is done to keep humidity and ambient temperatures from fogging the windows.

Is there a way to stop this noise without changing the stepper motor, the ticking exactly coming from the driver dashboard under the steering wheel.

No, it will keep doing it until you fix it. Unfortunately, these stepper motors (i.e. servos) and actuators are not easy to get to. Most of the time, you have to remove the center console and the "center stack" in the dash. Other times, it's worse - you have to disconnect the evaporator and remove the entire ventilation assembly. The best course of action is to know which part has failed. That can be determined with proper diagnostic equipment (SDS = Star Diagnosis). Once you know which part is failing, we can tell you what it will take to fix it.

I had a noisy AC blower motor which I managed tolubricate and solve last week then I just enjoyed it for couple of days and then Igot this ticking from the driver side …. It looks that I have no chance to drive silently

This is usually the cause. As you can see they have been redesigned.

Many thanks for your responses, in the same time when I got the ticking issue the AC system suddenly stopped and it want turn on again until I click the auto bottom then it work with no issues, this happened three times so far, this morning I did a reset for the AC system by holding RECIRC and FRONT DEFOG buttons but again I faced the same issue after noon. Is this issue has a relation with the ticking noise or it all come together by chance

I think you have a problem in the AC control or duct work - you need to get the codes pulled to see exactly what's going on. That will require SDS (Star Diagnosis). Once you get the codes, we can better help.
