SoCal vert owners who park outside...
I only have a two car garage and just bought a new car which I'd like to park inside , and I have an older convertible corvette which I'd prefer to have in the garage. Therefore the odd man out is the CLK vert. I'd like opinions of those who also have a vert that park it outside in SoCal weather. Does it cause a lot of fade or wear and tear on the tonneau cover? If you have any tips let me know.

could invest in a car cover maybe?
as long as the car isn't sitting under the sun all day, or has trees all over you should be fine IMO

I used to park my vette outside and the car cover idea got old really quick taking it off and putting back on everytime I used it was too cumbersome.

Mine is outside all the time. I guarantee that the sun in Denver is more intense than in So Cal. No ill effects I've noticed. I had a Vovlo convert before this with a blue top that was outside for 7 years and was already 5 years old when I bought it. It was just fine when I sold it at 12 years old.

Mine stays in the garage at home. Unlike many of my neighbors, we our the garage to store our vehicles instead of useless junk. When I go into the office, it sits outside in the parking lot. Luckily, that's only 20-30 hours a week. as long as you keep the canvas clean and give it a good protection coating a few times year (Raggtop, Griots, Scotchgard or even Grangers tent protector), you should be fine.

I had a Mustang GT convertible for almost 15 years and kept the original top. The key is to keep it covered when possible, or at least out of sunlight.
The one issue that is important is to try to keep the temperature extremes to a minimum. I believe that cold temps have an issue with the materials, including the top as well as the various seals.
Keeping it clean is absolutely required.

The CLK's top is fabric, where the Mustang uses a vinyl material. The fabric is much more durable with less fading and shrinkage. Still, anything exposed to the elements is going to fade and deteriorate. A cover is a good idea, or least parking it in the shade, but not under trees where sap can get on it.
