Leather shift boot replaceable?

Is the leater shift boot replaceable separately or is it part of the shift knob? I just pulled my shifter off and I cant see how the boot would detach at the top - it seems permanently fastened.

MBZ only sells it as one piece - part number A2032671811 + color code (w/o KelylessGo). I think it's around $200. However, it is possible to remove the leather boot from the shift knob - Jerry has instructions here:

http://www.formymercedes.com/Shift_K...ather_Boot.asp

I'm not sure what good it will do, though, unless you are going to have a leather shop make a new boot for you.

Thank-You

Coincidentally, I just priced this today - with keyless go. It was $400+.

Part # should be the same, but most likely it's going to be slightly different shifter knob (with MB emblem on the top).

I'm pretty sure that you can buy one w/o keyless go and replace only shift boot from (without shift knob). Actually I have spare shifter from version with keyless go (from 2005 clk) I can double check that shift boots are the same.

The boots will be the same. It's fairly easy to remove it from the knob:

Someone should send a stock one to Redline Goods if it hasn't been done, and get it templated for real leather replacement boots. They would hold up better too.

I am looking to purchase as per

the above part# in black (boot and knob)

I would guess that Redline already has

this boot pattern but if not...

Thank-You

Jerry's a good guy - been a customer for years. As for getting a boot custom made, use the OEM as a template and then have them add about half an inch in height to relieve some of the stress on the chrome trim ring!

Very true Rodney. Mine is now having to be glued down, and while the blue dries to full strength, it can't be driven as the boot is too tight, thus moves the trim piece. Silly!

I was trying to picture how you had done this. I may well do similar next time I have to lift that piece.

The only issue with my repair is that you can no longer pop the boot off the shifter when you need to remove the center console panel. Instead, you have to lift up on the whole panel with the boot in place, then pull it up over the shifter and release the locking collar and remove the knob so you can then fully remove the panel. It's a minor inconvenience, though, since one would not be disassembling the console very often (or so I'd guess).

Yes - picked it up from from the dealer today

In black with the MB emblem

I then drove to Eastside Auto Salon (EAS) in

Bellevue where luck was with me as the overhead

door was open and I drove right in

It took Ben about 3 minutes to remove the old

knob/boot and install the new one

Looks great - glad I did it

Thank-You
