Thumbs up CLK63 Bumper Hella 90mm Retrofit (pics)

So, after ordering all 600000 parts needed to convert my 04 CLK55 to the 63 bumper I decided to retrofit some 90mm Hella projector fogs instead of the crappy stock ones. With an HID kit they should put down a decent amount of light. Anyway here's how it came out.

The fogs are recessed about an inch compared to the stock ones. I had to make custom bezels which I painted black and I decided to use a nice thick plexiglass piece (as the glass) that not only protects but makes them look more finished...so instead a of having a hole and the foglight recessed you have a piece that aligns with the stock chrome ring.

Thanks! I'll post some updated pics after paint and install. If anyone knows a body shop in the NJ area that can match paint...feel free to post it up

Forgot to post pics of the finished project. Here's one.

I've put about 1500 miles on them so far and everything seems to be holding up well. The amount of light you get at night is literally 200% over stock which is great. I have them aimed low so they light up the foreground extremely well.

I had the whole interior covered in the CF vinyl. Looks nice but after a while you get tired of it. It looks cheap. IMO only real CF should go on the outside of the car.

The lip exists...it's called the godhand lip...clk63. I'll be getting one soon enough after I am done with my brake/exhaust project.

The part numbers for the bumper are different based on options (washers/parktronic)

Project and lights look great man. The clk63 front looks amazing and I agree with you the vinyl is just ok..

I was thinking more the glossy vinyl

Hmmm I actually have a lot left over from blacking out the lip on the front bumper. I'll give it a shot this weekend after I install the new brakes and see how it looks. I'll post some pics.

The bumper you mean? Go for it. It completely transforms the car. The prior design one is a little too aggressive for this car IMO.

looks good man. I've been dieing to get some projector fogs in my c55 bumper. Now i just got my clk63 bumper in a few weeks ago I'd love to actually hear more about how you went about this...

also did you have a shop do all the leg work for your bumper? or did you just have them paint it and you put it all together and installed?

Yup those are them. I made/put everything together myself...I had a reputable shop paint it properly. All in all a fun project

I just measured the opening of the chrome ring and on the grille and cut accordingly. I had a really thick piece of plexiglass laying around and I just used that. Make sure you seal everything so you don't get water behind the plexiglass.

lol, soooo I've never worked with plexiglass before, is there like a special sealant/glue i should use to attach it to the chrome ring?

Not really. I used rtv gasket maker. That stuff gets hard and holds quite well...Plus you can take it off without damaging the parts...if you need to.

sweet, i think i got some of that Permatex black left over from my last gasket swap on my 05 C230...I assume that'll work just fine, i'll just have to be careful and not make a mess since its black and not clear
