New CLK240 Has arrived!

Finally after almost a years wait, our CLK 240 has arrived. My god I love this vehicle. It drives superbly and looks magnificent! A real attention grabber. The pillarless feature is great and the 2.6L engine is much much better than I expected. So smooth and powerful enough, with a silky transmission. I actually think the engine is smoother than the 3.2L in the E-class and the transmisiion more seemless. The rain sensing wipers also work extremely well (better than the e-class). The only complaint so far is the standard sound system, which is quite obviously not that great.

Congrats.........

Wow..you had to wait a year? That would kill me. Is the 240 the same as our U.S. 320?

Is the standard stereo in that model the Bose system?

The 240 in the UK has a 2.6L V6 engine - the 320 in the UK is the same engine as in the US.

The standard stereo system is not the Bose system, which is an optional upgrade at £485 (roughly $730).

Mercedes - hope you enjoy the car! Certainly sounds like you will

PS: Have now ordered a 320 Avantgarde - 1 Mar 04 delivery (waiting for Vented Seats and Power Trunk options) - can't wait!

Yup, the standard stereo is not the bose system, and the 240 is not equivalent to a 320 in the US. We also get the 320's here.

I am located in Brisbane.

WOW ! Really ??? The rain sensing wipers on my CLK500 still work miserably, even after repeated visits to the service department. Wipers still skip and chatter and the rain sensor always gets confused in light rain and goes into the high-speed mode. I'm always embarrased to turn on the wipers when I have a passenger.

Maybe they got these problems sorted out on new vehicles ?

Rain sensor in my E is just plain ****, and the wiper is noisy as hell. I used Mercedes Benz of Brisbane in the Ann St, they are pretty good, i was handled by the malaysian guy, he's really nice and the service guy is not too bad either.

what did they change?. mine is like ****, work extremely hard when you have a drop of rain on it. It will scrub the windscreen creating rude noises, quite embarrasing.

I also have a 240 Cab, Wipers work great

I only had to wait about 3 weeks for my CLK 240 Elegance Cab (demonstrator with 2500 Miles on the clock).

My Wipers work flawlessly. They always seem to wipe just when I'm about to reach for the control and only go onto high speed when its chucking it down.

They will no doubt get plenty of use in teh UK this winter !!

I also find teh transimmison silky smooth (I had a SLK 230 last time), and this just wafts along. I'm still trying to decide if the C or S setting for the transmission is best.
