a little help making a decision
Hi guys,
so a year and a month ago i purchased my 2009 clk350 with the amg package.
Absolutely love the car, in my opinion its the perfect balance between luxury and performance.
but, its time to move on. im giving the 350 to my sis and considering a clk55/550
if its a 55 i want a 05 so i get the upgraded breaks and quads.
(im still debating a cabrio or not. more of a persona decision, but more things to go wrong)
last choice is a g37s (still considering the awd option)
what do you guys thing?
so, what is the reliability on those 05' 55? i know those rotors are like 900 a pair, correct?
Thanks

changing to g37s is not the best choice
as u already said that it is the best combination for luxury and performance i doubt that you can find the same luxury of MB in others cars
clk 55 AMG or clk 550
2 cars with different objectives
so i looking for style and power go AMG
looking for elegance trim go 550

Yea I just knocked the g37 out of the equation. The reason im leaning towards the 55 is the bbk

If it were between an '05 55 and any 550' I'd go with the 55. The reality is that stock to stock they are about the same in the 1320 but the 55 has more potential because you can supercharge it where as the 550 is NA all the way. I think owning an AMG is special and carries a certain pride of ownership with it and that's worth a heck of a lot more to me than and extra 20 some odd HP in the 550.
You can't go wrong with either one but the 05 55 is a special car. Just my $.02

Yep, given the choice, I'd go for the AMG CLK55 over the CLK550. For one, it will be less expensive to buy, two, you get the true AMG sport suspension, and three, a solid engine/transmission combo. Now, if you want pure performance, the CLK550 is it. The advertise numbers on paper look the same, but the reality is, where the CLK55 is a 5.1/5.2 0-60, the CLK is more like 4.8. Why? MBZ didn't want to **** off the guys who had just bought MY2006 CLK55s and paid almost $10K more than the MY2007 CLK550.
Considering the cabriolet, well, that was the primary reason I bought my CLK. I was actually looking for an SL, but my wife talked me out of it, claiming we might need a back seat. Well, 99% of the time, it's just me in the car. The wife refuses to ride with the top down, and I refuse to ride with it up, so I might as well have gotten an SL. Oh well, live and learn. At least I don't have to deal with all those ABD headaches.

Hahah, women!!!
im still torn about getting cabrio. About 5 months ago I was looking at a 09 white 550 and well I waited to long someone purchased it.
The whole reason I want a 05 55 is because of the quads and owning a true amg! Plus I love the bbk on it. It sure beats having to install brembo bbk
I Am considering getting some bilstien coils.
Also considering it being a real amg, it should hold value better down the line, no?
How about the mpg, how do they differ?
And how about the transmission. I know the 55 is a 5g and the 550 is 7g.
I still need to do more digging here.
Saw a custom bs style body kit on a white clk55 cab and it looked amazing!!
Oh, are the interiors different?
Current options.
1) 05 55
2) 09 550
3) 55 or 550 cabrio.
any major maintaining difference, I know the 55 uses 2 piece front rotors that cost a leg. Lol
sorry that my thoughts are all over the place, typing on my phone

Everything depreciates. The newer it is the more you lose. Get the earlier 55. I think you can use 500 rotors which are cheaper. The 7 speed is nicer but i don't know how much of a difference it makes. I have no complaints about the 5g.

^yea. I'm really thinking about sticking with a 05 clk55. Cabrio or coupe. Going to dealer tomorrow.
One of my main reason for a 05 55 is the bbk.

But doesn't the 550 do 482 HP on pump gas?
Kidding aside, I love my 550. Hope to dyno it in the next week or so. I ended up getting most everything on my checklist.
H&R lowering springs, full exhaust from exhaust manifold back with dual AMG tips and a magnaflow, OE Tuning tune with handheld tuner, AMS pulley, k&n filters (no bad MAF yet) Comand head unit and clear corners.
Still waiting to get rims and those damn headers to go on sale!
Kyle.

How is oe tuning? Do you feel the difference?
I already spoke with my dealer, he is on the hunt.
I also walked into Mitsubishi , they have some good lease option on the evo x mr. It has always been on my list to drive. Might end up getting a lease for2 years. Decisions decisions

^haha, yea, just got back from my dealer, he found 1 clk55 so far, i didnt like it. he is going to the auction thursday, lets see what he finds.
re evo: im going on a test drive tomorrow, always wanted to drive 1 (im 23 leave me alone lol jk)
also, the weather here in NY is so unpredictable that a evo would haul ***.
i wish i would be able to afford the payments on a cla45 but that is out of the question. it would eat an EVO

Pay particular attention to the interior quality and the ride for the evo, make sure you can live with it. They are fun for track days and winding mountain roads. They are not fun for long trips and if you get a manual they are a lot of work. Not like floating along in a clk or any benz for that matter. Can you look at privately selling clks to widen the pool?

thanks for that input TW2, i was looking at the evo MR which is an automatic and it is a lease. they have some attractive leasing options on the 2013 models beccause the 2014 are out. now dont get me wrong the CLK line is perhaps one of my favorite benz out there.
also, i still need to go take a test drive in it. also, there is no prestige like driving in a benz, even if its an old one. it just screams class. my main reason for looking at the the evo is the weather in ny makes it hard to drive in the winter. we are moving to a cheaper place, maybe i can afford both =] lol
