Mercedes Benz Offers Illuminated Three-Pointed Star
I assume everyone else has seen THIS.
It's almost embarrassing how MB has stumbled into the LED era, but what do we think of this latest effort?

It would look great on my 2007 SL550 - however, MB will probably charge some ridiculous price for it that no one will buy it. How about after-market? I am sure there are a lot of great inventors who could make this affordable.

Uhhh.... I think I am just too "old school" and prefer a slender chrome (or other "color") one that "sorta" catches your eye as it passes, or turns, or when the interior and parking lights come in anticipation of your entry.......................... But I do like a strong exhaust note....

MB isn't what it used to be. There was no mistaking a MB 20 years to 40 years ago. Now, it looks Honda-ish/Hyundai-ish. They forgot to illuminate the undercarriage as well so it'll fit right in with the boyz in the 'hood.

I once asked my dealer's GM why the cars on his lot were all black, white or some shade of grey, a trend echoed in MB's press photos until very recently. His answer was that MB customers are mostly a conservative lot. Even though it may find approval with younger buyers, the older demographic is still MB's bread and butter. I don't see this look-at-me shout-on-the-snout going down well with that part of the customer base.

I haven't seen the star but when would you actually have it illuminated? At night no one can see it with the headlights on. During the day its not going to show up. Maybe just when you unlock the car in a dark area, like when the fogs go on for 10 seconds.

OK< if the lighted grille star is too tacky, what about this:

It's available on Ebay via an MB dealer for $390. They advised the install would be in the $325+ range. So you're talking $700+ for a cosmetic "upgrade" that has limited functionality and cheapens the MB brand.

Does anybody here know how I can modify the OEM illuminated star kit to fit a 2007 CLS-550? I've been to the dealer, but they tell me there is no kit for my car, only newer models. I thought the star medallion on these cars are pretty much the same diameter. My belief is that it should be possible to modify an illuminated star kit intended for another model and make it fit my 2007 CLS. I have no idea where to start or who to ask... I WANT ONE OF THESE, GHETTO LOOKING OR NOT! :-)

Lol the ghost lights? I saw someone at the mall who had these and I couldn't help but laugh out loud when I saw it.
