Question on AEM dry-flow filter

Hello everyone was wondering if anyone has tried these filters yet am weary due to all the problems with the k&n jacking up the MAF I know these do not require oil so was hoping they were safe just looking for some feedback thanks...

Hi, so I'm going K & N filter in my CLK500 since 10000km without any problems. I think K & N has responded and the filter wetted with less oil. A further advantage, since the filter is flat, is in the inlet of the air box much better. Greetings from Germany, Burner

I just don't get the need for aftermarket air filter systems on MBZ engines. The factory setup already uses cold air intakes, and the filter opening (not even counting overall surface area of the convoluted material) is over 10 times that of the throttle opening. I just don't see much else that a filter can do to help improve breathing. Of course in older cars with small filters, small air inlets, and no cold air intake, I can see how the horn" style K&N intake and filter might help, but in the case of our cars, I just don't see the advantages.

Thanks for the replies I agree the stock system overall is great and wouldn't change to an aftermarket but the stock filters themselves get clogged pretty frequently and restrict alot of air that's where the k&n could help benefit with gas mileage and.. And very slightly with overall performance but the oil messing with the MAF is what worries me which is why I am considering the dry-flow but don't wanna waste the money if they don't perform any better than the regular Mann filters.

hello, the K & N filters are flat, not as high on the design. This allows the intake air to flow better. I will later when I have access to my other computer, look for images and adjust them to you here, then you can see what I mean. greetz burner

If the filters are getting clogged, then they are doing their job of keeping particulate out of the engine. A filter that doesn't get clogged so easily is passing more particulate into the engine. I don't think that's what I want. Of course the aftermarket filters we are talking about are permanent and washable, so as long as they do just as good a job filtering particulate as disposable filters, then you might save some money by cleaning and re-using them, and you could clean them more often than replacing the OEM style, thus making the engine breathe better. So maybe there are some advantages, but nothing really performance related.

None to be honest. Possibly made the engine a little bit louder? Can't really tell over my exhaust lol.

Guess no MAF screw ups counts as a benefit.

I haven't gone on the dyno yet to see if there are any actual performance improvements. If there are, I'm sure it's minimal

My local dealerships sell this air filter set for $75CAN. With tax, I would have to pay $85.

In the past 2 years, I have been buying the Mann filters (OEM) from US online stores for $22-$24US per set. Although I cannot confirm the specs of these OEM filters, visually these Mann filters and MB filters are identical. Changing the air filters is DIY, I am OK to spend $25 every 12,000K miles. Additionally, I do open the air filter housing occasionally to vaccum.

One Canadian online store sells this Mann air filter set for $61CAN. The also sell Mahle Air Filter Kit for $29. Not sure if these Mahle filters are any good.

+1^ The OE filters are excellent. Certain oiled filters frequently discussed on these forums spend half their life filtering poorly & would need frequent maintenance to do a half good job. You would be surprised how little dirt it takes to screw an engine.

I will not compromise on oil, filters, tyres, brake pads etc. namely items that effect safety or durability.

Appreciate the feedback .. going to do a little more research on them might try the pro dry filters seems to be getting a lot of good reviews. Also was reading the green filters work real well and are closer to the stock ones if anyone is interested.

A lot of SLK55 guys use the Green Filters. I think there's a dyno sheet where they got an extra 7hp or so, with them installed.
