Secondary Cat Resonator and Backbox delete on CLK500
Hey guys!
After experiencing potential cat failure (unstable idle, and foul smell after strong acceleration) on clk500 wanted to get rid off the cats. But hey always wanted to have a quad system in place, so thought why not cut the cats and the rest and replace it with straight pipe system high flow resonator and quad tail pipes. So, went to the garage this afternoon and handed in my beauty to a hippy looking exhaust guy
Will update soon with sound video and my opinion on sound and power gain!
So far this is the progress guys

Looks like plenty of room along the tire well to. That gap along the spare well is 4"+ inches.
I may have that section around the sway bar reworked on mine next summer to resemble this.

From the pic it seems that the right side is about 1" lower than the left with 2 45 degree bends to avoid the lower section of the sway bar. Looks very clean. If the shop used has the capability, a mandrel, more smooth, bend could be used.

sound from the inside!
first half of the video is with windows up. this is more of aggressive driving above 4000 rpm. so a little loud inside. road was extremely slippery so shifting like a fool

I believe you can hear the drone at 30-38 seconds on a decel and at 45seconds on accel. I would guess these are at about 1900 and 2500 rpm. Maybe gbert can correct or affirm my guess.

Hey beejaypunsalan! Yep Fatz you are correct! there is a drone at around 2000rpm, but it isn't loud enough to bother me or the passengers. Cruising on the highway at 60mph the noise level is fine, I do a lot of long distance runs on the motorway, 5-6 hours each way and don't have headache from the sound. CLK has good quality sound insulation, so unless you drive with windows down, the drone wouldn't really bother you.

you mean the rear box? im planning on deleting that altogether. there's a another guy from the 211 forum who's done it. my only dilemma is that I dont have cut out rear bumper so im still on the fence.

You're sounding good. There's nothing like the feeling I get in mine when the rpm climbs above 1600 and moves steadily (and within the limits of the law) toward redline....... Dang!
