Speaking of the W205, I saw one the other day. They are building these at the MBUSI factory here. I was lightly disguised, which is the only reason I even took notice of it. What saw looked very nice. With all the unusual winter weather we are having here in the southern USA, 4MATIC would be in high demand.

W205 is a very nice car. I think it will sell well. I understand the requirement for 4 Matic I just feel they are missing an opportunity not having RWD available from day one. Not everybody wants the complexity of AWD if they don't need it.

After driving AWD vehicles for years, I began to take things like rough roads, rain, and the occasional snow/ice in stride. Had the W209 come in AWD, I'd have one. The good news is that MBZ's 4MATIC system is not very complex - just two extra differentials and everything is the same.

I'm afraid the transfer case failure rate is a worry since the unit has been integrated into the 7 speed. Too many failures for comfort on the W204. Some markets also worry about effect on fuel consumption but I guess not the US yet. And then there is the on-cost.

The M112/M113 engines use a single overhead cam system with "rockers", not "lifters". There are two intake valves and one exhaust valve per cylinder, as well as two spark plugs per cylinder. So, your CLK500 has 16 intake valves, 8 exhaust valves, 16 spark plugs, and 24 total rockers.

The hydraulic "lifter" element is built into the nose of the rocker that contacts the valve stem. This achieves zero lash.

Unhappy One other thing I noticed.....

apparently my clk has a 6 speed transmission...... i thought we had 7 speeds....i have a 2006 clk500 with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. can anyone weigh in? when i shift manually it only goes up to 6. AND idk when this happened but i have a grinding sound when i accelerate it happens at 900 rpm and 1100 rpm and 4100 rpm specifically and especially uphill wtf lol. im starting to think my clk is cursed...

Your CLK has a 7 speed transmission. 1 to 6 plus D on the indicator.

Grinding noise does not sound healthy. Do you hear any strange noises if you rev the engine in Park or Neutral?

Their are 3 souces of ticking that could be considered common.

1) Purge valve
2) Hydraulic lifter
3) A broken piston ring.

Try & give us a sound clip of the "transmission" noise. Could be a torque converter or cracked flex plate.
