iPod integration issues in CLK 350

iPod integration issues in CLK 350
Hey all, did some research and gave up - so here I am. Wondering if anyone has experienced issues with navigating through songs with the OEM iPod integration kit. I am assuming it's OEM because it works through the steering wheel buttons and uses the display on the speedo.
Mine sounds great, volume is a little weak but can be tweaked with on-iPod EQ.
However, navigating through songs when the iPod is in shuffle songs mode produces some weird results. Examples:
1) If a song starts playing, and I don't hit "UP/NEXT" within the next 3 seconds, the song starts again.
2) If I hit up/next on a song after a previous song that has completed, it will cycle back to the beginning of the previous song, rather than move forward to another.
The result is I have to jam on the up/next button 4 or 5 times to move to the next song, rather than just hitting up/next once, because it keeps cycling through. The steering wheel buttons are a little worn on up/next from the previous owner, so now I'm thinking that might be a reason why.

press 'down' for the next song 
Up just restarts it if you press it right after it begins, as you discovered.
Yeah I know its backwards from the CD controls :shrug:
