What is that exact engine serial number? If it's "272.9xx 30 006016" then it is in the affected range. In the "30" series, all M272's up to 468993 are affected by potential balance shaft failure. And I have yet to see a MY2006 M272 that isn't. yours may be fine, but the parts are not very expensive and since you have the engine pulled, you might as well do that job. I'd hate to put all the effort into rebuilding the engine only to have that sprocket fail 10K miles later.

the bad news however is that the car was last taken to an MB service center in 2011. hopefully the previous owner continued to service it after then.

HI Guys, so Engine turned. but 1 conrod is broken and the Oil Pick-up pipe as well. MB charged ZAR2300.00 just for one. Mechanic says the crank is still fine but how would you know whether its slightly bent or not ? can the eye tell ?

The crank won't be bent (semantics) due to main bearing location. You would have to check for twist by measurement. Unlikely.
Did the broken rod damage the bore on that cylinder? If you need to fit a repair sleeve on that bore this thing could become uneconomical quickly.

The M272 is based on the M112 but the parts are not interchangeable. The bearings are wider on an M272.

done some research and the 272 comes in about 4 different capacities. 230, 280 300 and 350 ? looks like the con-rods are the same as for all of them. So instead of looking for a 350 con-rod i'll start looking for any of the above
