2006 CLK 350 Cabriolet with MAJOR problems

So my wife and I purchased a 2006 CLK 350 Cabriolet in 2010, at the time, the car only had 12,000 miles and 1 previous owner.
Now it only has 22,000 miles on it and the check engine light came on. We took it to a specialist on the island who told us it has

1200 Constant Adjustment of exhaust camshaft of right cylinder bank in direction "Retarded" (P0017)

1208 Constant Adjustment of intake camshaft of right cylinder bank in direction "Retarded" (P0016)

So we took it to the dealership and they confirmed, this is the problem. Estimate to repair was right at $7,000! On a car that only has 22,000 effin miles on it!
Does anyone know if it's possible to get Mercedes USA to pay for the repairs? Of course since it's out of warranty the local dealer won't, but 22,000 miles!!! That's ridiculous!
Thanks,
I've been reading the Mercedes forums about this error, and even found these threads..

You have the dreaded balancer shaft sprocket problem. US members can advise you on action.

THanks, I'm really hoping there's some way to get Mercedes USA to help. I'd understand on an older car, but this is too low of miles for this kind of repair.

Go here:

http://mercedes-benz.custhelp.com

Click on the "email/write" link and contact MBUSA. Explain the situation and beg them for help . Do not be demanding or angry - be nice and give them a good reason to help you, like explaining why you bought an MBZ, other MBZs you've owned or family and friends who one them.

THanks for the suggestion, I will try this and update the thread.

So I tried everything and with no luck from Mercedes USA, they state that it doesn't matter that the car only has 22,000 miles on it, it's outside of the warranty and will not offer support.
So, I took it to local dealership and they wanted way too much money $7,000, I took it local mercedes only specialist who had just finished doing this to another car. He did it for $4500 out the door. I was very happy with his work thus far.
If anyone ever hears of Mercedes offering assistance for this piece of crap material they used, please let me know.

One more reason why I most likely won't be buying another MB. My brother just had VofA cover 65% on a blown head gasket on his out of warranty VW Jetta with just one call.

It took eight visits to the dealer and much yelling to get MBUSA to fix my dodgy Navigation system in warranty. Mercedes has to realize that they need to do more than just say that they're truly concerned about their customers.

"Goodwill" repairs require some "input" from the dealer. If the dealer isn't willing to go to bat for the customer, then it won't happen. I won't make excuses for this practice, but it pays to have a good relationship with your dealer in this case.
