Red Brake Calipers ?

I was toying with the idea of having my brake calipers painted red.. Not too bright but to match the tail lights. I've seen Porches where this looks real sharp but I dont know if its a Benz thing.

Your thoughts ?

caliper coatings

if your going to coat your calipers with anything, powdercoating is the way to go, paint will not last or holdup to any kind of heat or the corrosiveness of the dust coming from the pads, yes more trouble and expense but your results will be superior

Red would look really nice on silver. I think Evosport has the caliper paint you'll need.

2018 E63S,
Why would you do such a horrible thing? Its a benz, not a stinkin honda with a coffee can muffler hanging out. If youre going to put big ol stickers on your benz, please dont post about it. I think I'll puke.

As opposed to what? A Nobel Prize being awarded to people who rice out their Benz's? Last time I checked 2Pac wasnt on the Nobel Ugly Prize Committee....but **** I might not be too up to date on the news. Keep it up people, next thing you know, youll be shoving that 5" exhaust pipe out of the tail of your CLK.

...since when are red calipers "riced out"? I guess Porsche is riced out too.

used to have a W208 CLK & thinking about the new CLK (alone with M3 and S4).

anyways, i agree with clkguy. if u want the top quality finish gonna go with powdercoating. do buy the cheap caliper paint. i have some pics of powdercoated caliper if u guys interested

smokinV10,
i agree those cheap paint on the caliper is horrible hopefully u mean that!), but if the job done right will u still think red caliper "ricey"? don't think this is horrible :p

Can powder coating handle that kind of heat without discoloring? Is it very expensive?

yes, the powdercoating can, but the paint can't. in fact, all the Porsche OEM red/yellow calipers, Brembo calipers are powercoated. (as well the AMG silver/ ML55 red calipers)

i'd say the price is around $100~150 per caliper. (with or without letter. the MB logo is not hard to produce)

price may very. here are some black caliper re-finished to red. thanks SANDVAL for pics!

Excellent! Red would look better than the Cadmium color of my E55 calipers.

2018 E63S,
Its rice regardless of what medium you use to coat the damned caliper. Sure porsche's TT cars have red calipers, but then they also come OEM on a 100K SPORTS CAR. My viper has aftermarket Stoptech brakes that are also red....again a 100K sports car. But sticking red calipers that offer no additional performance for the pure pupose of making your car LOOK racey when its a damned sedan IS RICE. RICE IS ANYTHING INAPPROPRIATE..and that would also include coffee can mufflers and gigantic shopping cart wings. Want to do soemthing cool with your brakes? figure out how to adapt E55 AMG calipers to your car.

Sorry dude, there's absolutely nothing wrong with doing purposeful aesthetic upgrades to a car. I painted my orange reflectors to body color and the car looks much better. Increaed functionality? None. That doesn't mean its rice.

Who decides what is appropriate? I'm not talking about some loud annoying Honda Civic exhaust or green ground effects. Red calipers will look hot and as much as I appreciate your feedback its not gonna sway my decision either way.

If you search hard enough on this site, you can find a pic of a guy with either a CLK or a C that painted the stock calipers red (from sometime over the summer I think), and IMO they looked pretty bad. Highlighting the beauty of a set of well designed, beefy 4-8 piston brakes by using a flashy color looks great if done right, but doing it for the stock brakes that come with the CLK seems like a total waste of money to me. How much were you planning on spending on this?
