A250 18 inch oem rims to 2006 clk 280 problem

Hi mb team, would like to ask your help as i am very desperate now since i changed my stock rims to the a250 oem rims and after the balancing and alignment, i still get a bumpy somehow wavy ride. I put some standard spacers as it is rubbing in front and the ebreak pin is getting hit at the back with the bolt. The ride is so annoying and i dont know what to do next. Tire size is 225 40 18 front and 245 40 18 rear. Attached is a pic of the car and rims and i desperately hope someone could help me. Thanks in advance.

I am not a tire expert but if I apply the +1 configuration for my tires (17" to 18"), I would put:
Front: 225-40-18
rear: 255-35-18

Thanks mis3. I thought of that solution already and i want to consider changing the tires as my last resort as im afraid if the problem doesnt go after that, im gonna end up paying more unnecessarily.

I got these +1 or +2 configurations right from tirerack.com.
Go to your local tire store and ask. Make sure they guarantee fitment before purchase.
Or, send an email to Tirerack and ask.

I'm running 18 inch wheels on my clk. 225/40r18 front and 255/35r18 rear. 18x8 35et front with a 5mm spacer and 18x9 35 et with a 3mm spacer rear. From your pics you look like you could space the rear out more. But with a spacer bigger than 3mm you need to be hub centric. If they are not hub centeric spacers you will get vibrations.

I dont have pictures, but I bought them on ebay. Not expensive ones at all. Neither front or rear spacers are hub centric. Thats why I only have the 3mm ones on the back. They are thin enough to still have the hub center the wheel. I actually had them on the front but decided I wanted the 5. So I just threw them on the back cause I already had them. I might go to a 10 on the back and those have to be hub centric. The ones in your pics are hub centric by the way. Mine dont have the spaces in them they are solid except for the stud holes. They are made for a Mercedes fitment. Hope I didnt confuse you more

Thanks gary. Ill let you know this saturday coz i think i posted the wrong pic of spacers. The ones i have on rear is not hub centric also 3mm and the 5 mm i have in front intitially didnt fit so the guy had to cut the hubcentric part of the spacers so i think thats the issue causing the uneasy ride.

If the bore on the spacer is bigger than the hub you will have issues.

It almost looks like the wheel bolts are too long. Hard to tell from the pics. But then they all would be messed up not just 2????? Do you have any noises? That could be your ride issues. If you are hitting on the inside.

Hi gary no noise whatsoever inside. Thats what i thought of to that all the bolts should be stripped if there is an issue with the hub or wheels. Im feeling hopeless now.

you need some 10mm spacers or more so you will get no vibration i bought mine for HnR ... 5mm and lower are non hub centric and will always cause vibration

Not quite true. On the front, the hub is long enough that a 5mm spacer will still be hub centric. On the rear a 3mm spacer leaves just enough hub to still be hub centric. On the rear if you need more than a 3mm spacer you will need a 10mm spacer that will be hub centric. On the front I don't think you can fit a 10mm hub centric spacer.

Hi guys, just to give you an update. I finally got a centric ring fitted on front rims and walla the vibration and steering play is gone! Unfortunately for me since i checked online for the A class and clk class bore size, since they are the same i ruled out the centric rings... Did a lot of extras to try and get rid of the play and i ended up spending almost 2k usd for trying. Lesson learned the hard way... However those extras i paid for came as a consolation as the parts replaced are due for replacement anyway. Thank you all for your useful tips and knowledge. Really appreciate it.

Glad you got it all sorted out! Now enjoy it. Although, the mod bug can be addicting!
