CLK 320 Convertible Top signals "lock top"
I can be riding down the street and the malfunction indicator starts to beep the the top is in operation and then signals to "lock top". Anyone else experienced this problem?

Sounds like a bad microswitch. I'm not sure which one it would be, but I'd guess either the front one at the windshield or where the rear glass meets the cover.

Rodney, I think you are right on. Although the switches inside the soft top storage compartment (where the rear glass meets the cover) are more prone to getting dislodged, I would not count out the switch in the top lock mechanism. The latter is a big issue on the R129 SL-Class, and it might be starting to show for W209 CLK convertibles now.
CaptCrunch123, where are you located, and has any work been done to your top lately?
Does the warning go away by itself, or if you push the button to close the top? In the latter case, there may be a simple way to narrow this down.

Thank guys for the replies. I'm located in Tampa, FL and the person I bought it from did tell me that he had put in a new top motor in 6 months ago. No the signal does not go off by itself or when I push the top operation button. I have to open the top (partial) and re-close it to deactivate the malfunction.
Rodney's suggestion is a good place for me to start, I noticed that since this problem began that when the top is fully closed, after operation is completed, that it does not "beep" as it once did.
Further thoughts???

I don;t think you should get any beeps. Mine only beeps if there's a problem, such as the trunk partition not being closed, or driving while the top is in operation.

CaptCrunch123,
it's time to start examining micro switches. Stop the opening or closing cycle where you have full access to the storage compartment, and take a visual of the micro switches in the brackets that the tonneau cover and the rear glass land on. See if one of those switches looks pushed out of its normal place.
