Alarm Problem

While I was driving today my alarm started sounding and lights flashing. (Stock alarm that came with the car) When I arrived at my destination I shut off the car and the alarm stopped. When I went inside I could hear the alarm outside again. I got it to stop by hitting the open / close buttons on the remote. This happened twice. Now I noticed the red alarm light on the dashboard does not light up or blink with the car off and none of my 3 remotes work except they only start the car now. I have to lock the car manually. I checked some of the fuses in the trunk and none were blown but it was dark and I was using a flashlight. Does anyone know which fuses I should check for the alarm? Every one of my interior functions work normally. Just the keyless go and the alarm seem to be affected. Thanks in advance.

Looks like it is a fuse problem.. but i cant remember exactly which fuse. Maybe somebody will will chime in. There was a reset procedure for the key where pulling a fuse in the car for a couple seconds and reinstalling would reset the key system. I've dont it a couple time on my old C class.

I thought it was a fuse problem also but what caused it? Today is a new day so I will go fuse hunting. Engine Compartment, Drivers Side Dashboard and Trunk. I hope I do not have to take it to the dealer.

I went fuse hunting today. I found one blown fuse. #8 7.5A fuse. I replaced it and it blew again and again and again. I wasted 3 good fuses. What is causing this is a mystery to me. The print out I obtained says the #8 fuse (In the trunk) is for Anti-Theft Alarm system which is what I am experiencing. I am guessing when this issue is resolved the Keyless Go might work again. So I guess it is off to the dealership which I was trying to avoid . Except for the alarm and keyless go the car performs as it should. Does any one know how to reset the alarm feature?

The alarm module is likely shot. It is located behind the front right wheel. You'll need to remove the fender shroud to access it. Even with the shroud, water gets in there and corrodes the module. For now, just unplug the wiring harness so you can get fuse #8 back in place to restore RCL and KeylessGo functionality. You can get a new ATA module from parts.com for a bit less than dealer prices.

Thanks a million. Sounds like an easy fix. Is there a part number or should I just order an ATA Module for my car. By the way, what does it look like? Thanks

I went to parts.com like you suggested. They have 3 different alarm parts listed for my car, 2005 CLK320 V6. 1 Sensor 2 different alarm control units, behind the right front wheel and another one under or to the rear of the drivers seat. The control unit behind the right front wheel is it the Siren? Thanks

It's probably this part number: A1718202526 (remove the "A" to search in parts.com). There are a few other parts numbers depending on chassis number. The good news is that parts.com sends this to an MBZ dealer to fulfill and they check your VIN.

What I plan on doing in a few days is to disconnect the wiring harness from the siren. Then replace the fuse. If the fuse does not blow then I will order the siren. Thanks for your help.

Thanks Rodney. You were right on. I disconnected the wiring harness from the siren and placed a new fuse in the #8 slot and now my keyless go works as it should. I did not replace the siren but that will be a future project since the car is always garaged. The screw/bolt that holds the siren to the mounting bracket is a special one and I do not have the tool to remove it. (See Photos) also there is no easy access to the siren from the fender well. The siren has to be removed from under the car which means removing the shroud under the oil pan. Even if I could remove the siren with the bracket I would need that special tool to remove the old siren from the bracket. This is more work than I wanted to get into. I am happy as a clam now that my keyless go is working and I did not have to take it to the dealer. Now my red alarm light on the dashboard flashes like it used to when I lock the car. Does this mean only the siren is disabled? How about the inclination?

I believe the ATA system will still operate without the siren. You can test this: lower a window, lock the car with the SmartKey (which arms the system), then reach and open the door with the inner handle. If your lights flash, then the ATA system is still working, just without the sound of the alarm. I am not sure if the inclination sensor is in the siren unit or not.

As for the special tamper-resistant bolt, you have two options. One, drill out the head and replace it with a regular bolt. Or, get a set of tamper-resistant Torx bits. Sears sells them:

I tested the alarm system and it is just as you said. The lights flash without the siren. I called my MBZ Dealer and their siren is $60 more than Parts.com. Parts.com will ship the siren directly to me. The inclinator module is a separate unit so I am guessing that works also. I found a tamper resistant torx/star bit set on ebay for less than $5 http://www.ebay.com/itm/7-PC-Tamper-Proof-Star-Torx-Security-Bit-Set-T10-T15-T20-T25-T27-T30-T40-/201182724341?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ed76cc0f5

Thanks
