Activating lock/unlock beep 05 clk320
1. If I use STAR to switch to the Netherlands version will this only effect the panic feature? My Indy said it will effect the radio and and some other things too.
2. Wasn't MY2005 clk equipped with the lock/unlock beep feature??
3. Could it be the alarm system going bad? After all it is 10 years old.

you indy is talking about changing the whole system to netherlands, what he should be changing is only the alarm region which has nothing to do with anything else. he should be accessing the alarm from the rear SAM and change old the alarm setting.

Yes thats correct! its not really a feature, its just basically required by law in some countries and can can be personal preference. The sound comes from the Alarm siren, so use your panic button to see if that works, a lot of times the alarm siren burns out and you'll have no idea about it. If you have no panic button then you have no alarm siren which in turn means you wont find the Alarm settings in STAR because you dont have an alarm (all USA cars have alarms)

A few months ago I replaced my alarm horn (Behind the passenger front wheel) because my keyless go would not work. My CLK320 is 10 years old. I never heard any beeps before I changed the horn. Now I hear them when I lock and unlock the vehicle. The OEM horn cost me $150 on parts.com my dealer wanted $212 It was an easy replacement.

What did you purchase and what did it look like? So far I'm finding these three versions of it... Wondering which one you used... for some reason I'm leading more towards the first round one?

The part I replaced is closest to the one on the left the alarm horn. I saved my old one and took some photos for you including the part number on the box. The pics are of the old alarm horn with the new box. I got my new one from www.parts.com which only sells genuine OEM parts. The new one looked almost exactly like the old one. I replaced just the alarm horn and reused the old bracket. The Mercedes part number is A 219 820 32 26
This is the part on parts.com: https://www.parts.com/index.cfm?fuse...2DALARM%2DHORN

Well basically to access that mode on STAR you need special permission from MB. But the Chinese knockoff STAR systems come pre-activated with developer mode. You access deep system settings such as MAX SPEED and things like a light bulb malfunction not telling you there is a malfunction. There is a setting for speed and volume of the lock beep sound. But its all in German (i used google translate) and its easy to mess with something you shouldn't really fast.

I finally replaced the siren on our clk and when I push the lock/unlock it beeps. No programming was necessary. Push the panic button and the siren goes off.
It's funny too because I would have never thought the car would have made a noise if I didn't see other threads about it.
Also beeps at normal speed as well which is nice. Perhaps mine was already programmed some other time but for as long as I can remember this car being owned by my friend it never beeped so I can only assume the siren was dead for a while...
Siren is what Timewarpone posted. Removed old, put on same part number and everything works as it should.

Exactly like what happened with my old C230. It had a working alarm but not sound when locking, a couple months later i noticed the alarm sound stopped so i had the siren replaced then BAM i have a sound when i lock the car. Its pretty weird since i'm pretty sure the siren itself in not programmable but instead the Rear SAM is in charge of sending the signal for the sound.

Glad I could help. I forgot to mention the beeping part. Mine never had a beep before I changed my alarm horn. Right after the change it now beeps 3 times when I close/lock the vehicle and beeps once when I open it. The beeps coincide with the flashing lights. The sound is audible, not to soft, not to loud. I never had anything adjusted. When I hit the panic button you hear a very loud sharp ear piercing shrill. Love It!!

The ATA siren is actually what controls the beeping when locking. If you replace it with a new, revised part, you'll get beeps. If you have the old siren, I have heard that there is a way to set the car to "Netherlands" country code and you'll get some horn beeping when locking/unlocking.
