hi guys,

i love the ambient lighting system in the new S-class and spent a lot of time think about how i can realize this in my w209. after a bit of research i found these el wires. They are perfect for this project. Unfortunately the el wire cant change the colors like the S Class. But i think its a good alternative. the power comes from the 12v cig lighter and the window switch light.

My english is not the best, sorry if there are some mistakes

greetings from germany

They seem to blend in very well.

I'm not a big fan of such mods...... so I'll just view this well done project as an exception.

I know it is an old thread, but where did you get the wires from? I know you're in Germany but these are smart and to know they'd sit good, I'd be willing to import if I couldn't find anything hopeful over here...

Oh man, not sure about the EL but you must tell me where you got that steering wheel.

Is an OEM MB one?

Ahh I see the text under the photo now.

I need to get one of these. :0)

no this is an special production. here in germany exist some steering wheel "tuners". their wrapping the steering wheels with leather, alcantara or designing own steering wheels like these.

i hope my english good enough to understand what i mean xD

The nearest I can find is this:

Its not a fat as yours but still nice.

I can't justify £265 on a steering wheel though... or can I? :0)

How did you attach them to surface? Did you have to remove door panel? Which set exactly did you buy?

That steering wheel is so beefy!

The only problem with el wire is that it fades over time and looks like ***. Especially being in a car, I would suspect with the UV rays for it to last a couple years.

We used to use el wire all the time back in the day for computer mods and things like that. It's cool, but hope you have better luck with it.

No unfortunately not. My already installed el wire in the door has lost so much brightness over the time. I saw the difference when the install in the rear was done. now that sucks really, probably i change the two in the door trim to have a nice and bright ambient lighting

This is good inspiration. I'll look into something similar but with LEDs. I would stay way from EL wire. It lasts a year at most and gets dim like crazy. If it works out I'll post some pics
