CLK430 exhaust louder than my 500 with same exhaust mods.... weird
I had a 99 CLK430 that I had my local shop do a secondary cat and resonator delete on which brought that car to life sound wise. Fast forward to me getting a 500 and having the same people do the same mod only without the backfires and growl that my 430 had. Its noticeably louder than stock but Id sat it's 60-70% the awesomeness my 430 kicked out of the pipes. My 500 gets no crackles or any fun noise other than just being louder Anyone else think thats a bit strange?

The difference in the volume could be related to differences in;
1. the engines
2. the primary cats
3. the mufflers
4. the pipe size and routing
5. the ecu parameters relative to the engine parameters (this is the driver for the snap-crackle-pops) as it is the result of excess fuel igniting in the exhaust pipes rather than in the cylinder.
I don't know the configurations on the two models, but I would guess the most likely/larger source of the differential is due to the mufflers.

Looks like a muffler delete is up next..... if for nothing else that stupid single exhaust tip needs to go! What a stupid look

I have no muffler, no resonator and no secondary cats. I just have an X-pipe after the primary cats and straight pipes to the tips. Take a listen to the sound in my exhaust thread in my signature. You'll like the muffler delete.

That sounds beastly!!! Unfortunately my neighbors wouldnt like me anymore if I went that loud. Love that sound! Where you have your X pipe I think Ill put a dual in dual out back to tips. Should give me a bunch more rumble. Any droning I could care less about. I love the sound of the engine purring. Beats anything on the radio these days!

Would it make sense to do a muffler delete and have them throw a resonator back on? THat should bring some rumble out of it without waking the dead shouldn't it?

I'd say the difference is in the muffler. You can try swapping it out for an AMG muffler as that might make a difference but will require cutting the bumper.
