Steering is very heavy !

Hello everyone . So I am starting to have this issue when I turn the wheel it's real heavy . I check tire pressure and it's fine . This started recently since it got really cold . Can this be the power steering pump ? There is no leaks

That would be my guess, unless its the rack itself, or maybe even a bad ball joint on the tie rods.

I need an oil change soon so I will just have my mechanic check it out . I drove the car today for about and hour and it seems to get better . Can this be due to the cold ? Thanks Rudeney

Have you checked the power steering fluid level?

Cold weather could be exacerbating the problem, but cold in and of itself should not make a properly functioning steering system become hard to use.

Its snowing here about 28 degrees . i checked the reservoir when the car was cold and the measuring stick is dry . Do i need to do the test when the car has warmed up? Also what power steering fluid should i use ? Auto zone is 5 min away is there any brand that they sell that works with Mercedes ?

You can use synthetic ATF from Auto Zone to get you going, but for gosh sakes get some fluid in the system. Once you top it of to the correct level, bleed the system by turning the wheel full lock left and right several times. Then check the fluid level again. You really don't want to damage the steering rack.

Pentosin CHF-11s is the proper fluid. You may be able to find it at a local auto parts store.

You can use it. You need to find the leak, get it repaired and then have the fluid flushed and replaced with MB power steering fluid. The cap has fill marks for when the fluid is cold and when it is hot.
