Just picked up a 2005 CLK240. After stopping to fill her up it started up with a clicking noise in the glovebox and thermatic fan racing. As well as that the AC didn't work and or did the speedo, tacho or indicators.
Is this familiar? Does anyone have advice / things to look at?

In excess of 20 fault codes. Modules are not communicating with each other. I feel a massive hole in my bank account coming....

That is a lot to chew on. Maybe you could sell it for what you paid thus saving the $3000. If you bought it, someone else should be a willing buyer.

This car had no issues when you bought it? The reason many people have read this and nobody has responded is that most people have no idea what could be the cause of all those problems, including me. But some people who have not yet responded can probably offer more advice. But your messages are a bit cryptic. What are the fault codes? Was it a MB certified tech with MBs' Star diagnoses system who check it out? The clicking sounds like a stepper motor - common issue. Some can be a pain to get to. Anyway, don't spend $3,000 until somebody like Rodney weighs in, but post the codes if you have them.

Sounds like water damage in some or one of the computers. Take a look at the front SAM see if there is visible water damage in there. Its in the top right corner of the engine bay (if the hood is open and your looking at the front of the engine) under 2 plastic covers. You'll notice a big box full of fuses and wires, see if you find blue corrosion on some of the relays and fuses.

A list of the fault codes would be most helpful. Also, the very first thing I'd check is battery voltage: 12.6v at rest, >11v during cranking, 14v at idle. Anything less and you're probably in need of a new battery and/or alternator and/or voltage regulator. Daniel's advice on inspecting the eBox for water is another thing to do before opening your wallet.

Thanks for the replies. No water damage in the SAM.
Car drove perfectly on 2 test drives and when collecting from the seller. When I stopped to fuel up and re-started is when all the fun began.
Symptoms:
Turn ignition: All dashboard lights go out. Tacho goes off, temperature gauge and fuel gauge turn off. A/C turns off. Seat belt presenter retracts, Windows wont function, Roof wont open or close, Indicators don't work. Fan in engine bay is racing.
Headlights work, radio works, brake lights work.
Car is drivable. Transmission works but wont go into tip-tronic mode. Speedo doesn't work and the odometer doesn't update.
On the list of faults (all of the above were listed on the report, it also lists that all the SRS systems are faulty, ESP is faulty,
I don't have the list of codes. it was over 3 pages on the report. The diagnosis was by an independent Mercedes Benz specialist at Chatswood in Sydney.
2 items to be replaced:
1. Ignition Switch
2. Charcoal filter box with damaged retaining systems and damaged drive gears.
I think I paid too much for this car!!

Most of these issues affecting multiple electrical systems usually comes down to battery and voltage regulator. I would at least replace these. I have a voltage regulator sitting around just in case was US$40. Just order online, you can replace it without removing the alternator. Of course you may have completely different issues but common things happen commonly.
