04 CLK55 VS SRT-6 which has more potential?

I'm considering trading my SRT6 for something faster. I'm looking at a CLK55, but not sure if that would be a step up or not. What potential do they have? What kind of 1/4 mile times can they run?

The CLK550 is faster than the CLK55. As for comparison to an SRT6 - what is an SRT6? Are you talking about a Crossfire?

If you're referencing the SRT8, the MY08 is about 425/high 400s hp/torque. The MY08 550 is 382/~390. The 550 is about 400 pounds lighter. Stock it is faster than the SRT. This is probably due to the weight and the car dynamics.

The newer SRTs are 485 hp and a little bit heavier. The Dodge is not going to handle as well. A stock 550 will probably still run well against a newer SRT (not the hellcat).

My car is modified and I have "encountered" a few SRTs, older and newer...... no problem........

The CLK550 was terribly underrated by MBZ. MBZ advertised it as a 5.1/5.2 second 0-60, but it's easily sub-5 - even the cabriolet. The problem was that it came out while dealers still had CLK55's on the lots, so they had to downplay its performance figures. Most of the time, MBZs advertised performance figures are a bit conservative.

There power figure are too.....especially on the "193bhp" versions of there cars from back in the day. At one time 193 horses was the maximum for German company car drivers if they did not want to pay silly levels of tax.....so all the German manufacturers were a "little" pessimistic on the figures to tempt the lucrative company business their way. I used to a have VW VR6 2.9 Corrado ....claimed power ...193 at the crank. My standard and quite high mileage one ran 209 at the wheels on the dyno! My wifes 99 SLK 230K R170 is a lively for an auto with just 193 horses too! LOL! They don't have the same laws now so I guess its all changed.

if you are looking for 1/4 times, the 550 would be your best bet. Its faster than a clk55. And def faster than any srt stock for stock. We beat them all the time,
And with mods the 550 gets pretty good times. ours is running high 7's in the 1/8 havent been back to a 1/4 track in a while

It's relatively easy and reasonable dollar wise to get the Crossfire SRT-6 to 12 flat, more or less, at around 115mph. (my best is 11.992 at 117.4) After that it gets costly unless you decide to use nitrous which will get you 11 flat, more or less, IF you know what your doing. I'm clueless about the 550 so I'll let people who know talk about it's potential.
There's a fair number of MB V-8 swapped Crossfires running around. Including the 55 AMG engine.

The supercharged 55amg swap has crossed my mind. 500hp in stock form is a good starting point...
