Keyless go LH unresponsive.
I have looked around and this is by no means a rare issue to have. My 2009 clk350 does not unlock when I pull the driver side and not the push button lock stopped too. The passenger side works fine so I figure to order a new handle and swap it out. I have seen pics and videos on this and it is simple enough but the question I have is. With a handle from a different car going on do I need to do any programming or anything? Or will the car just read a replacement handle as if it was the factory original?

Out Of Control!!
Within the handle is a sensor, you don't program sensors,it senses and forwards the information to the central locking system. However you did check with EPC that the handle is compatible with your car!!

I have yet to order the new one but I will verify. Thank you for the info, I read that there is IR and RF that I know nothing about so just wanted to check on.

It may not bee the door handle that is defective. It would be coincidental that both the touch sensor for unlocking and the lock button both fail at the same time. This could be a wiring problem between the door handle and door controller, or it could be a bad antenna in the door. I'd pull the door panel off and check for any obvious wiring issue. You could also test the antenna by swapping it with the other door. Of course SDS could diagnosis the problem precisely.

its easy. did not require any programming.
The "unlock" button always seems to die on me. The "lock" has always worked.
You can always swap door handles to confirm. Its 'backwards' but it works.

I can, but what's your intent? To replace the antenna? That's just "throwing parts at it".
Here's the WIS docs for removing the door paneling:

The antenna looks like a skinny rectangular bar stuck to the inside of the door.

So Rudeney, how does one determine whether the sensor in the door handle or the antenna is the culprit, given that the KG lock button works fine and the KG unlock doesn't (but key fob unlock does)?

It's not a sensor in the door handle. The door handle has two garden variety micro switches. You could remove the door handle and test the wire leads just like you would test the operation of any switch - continuity tester or meter while pressing the buttons. They do corrode, but Rodney makes a good point about two switches failing at once. Mine fails so infrequently I have not bothered to investigate. Is used a bad idea? Not necessarily, but you have no way to know how long it may last. Depends on the price vs. new.

EDIT #2:used is $115 shipped, new about $185 + shipping. The eBay seller below says E Class one doesn't fit 209. Is he right?
EDIT: Parts.com (and other sites) seem to indicate he's right; part for an E Class is 21176011709040, while the one I found for CLK is 21176011709197. Does that make sense, or are those differences just paint codes??
