AMG Badge Dilemma

Hey guys,

I just joined the forum today and this is my first post! I recently bought a 2008 clk550 and there is an AMG badge on the back. It has the AMG wheels and paddle shifters, and it also has the white instrument cluster instead of the normal black one.

Honestly, even if it came from the factory/dealer, I'm not very happy with that being there. Anyone who would actually recognize and impressed by an AMG would certainly know that a clk550 isn't one!

Anyway, as I said, the car was made in 2008. From the looks of it, it probably wasn't garaged, either. Do you guys think it would leave a nasty looking spot where the badge was if I were to debadge it?

Thanks!

Initially yes the paint won't be as faded as the rest of the car, but it should fade over time and blend in. I'd take it off regardless.

Paint fading is overrated. On a black car or dark car I think what you are seeing is the difference between pristine paint and paint with lots of micro-scratches from washing, dirt, etc. Take it off and buff the with area with some good, but not too fine, rubbing compound, like Meguires M105.

Oh, and the black instrument cluster is not "normal" - it's just more common than white. It depended on the interior color, but white is not a special option or anything. All 550s have AMG wheels, rocker panels, bumpers, and exhaust tips. Basically, leftovers from the CLK55. Probably half of 550 ads online say the car "Has the AMG Package!" They apparently never noticed that every car comes like that.

I have an 06 and removed the AMG badge from my car with floss. Then I cleaned the surface and hit it with a little polish and the wheel from my headlight polish kit. If you look at it just right you can see where it used to be but just barley.
