First of all, you can do whatever you wish to "your car".

Are you simply looking to add a glass pack or are you planning to use it to replace another exhaust component in your exhaust system?

I doubt that just adding one will make much difference.... BTW what is it you are trying to achieve?

Unless I am mistaken, Fatz, glass packs are designed to drastically increase the amount of noise created by the exhaust plumbing of cars, without delivering any performance benefits at all.

Glass packs in a Mercedes exhaust will certainly get the attention of other motorists, though one imagines that not all other road users would enjoy that extra racket emanating from a nearby car.

I don't think that inserting a glass pack between the engine and the resonator or muffler is going to do much. Maybe that is what the OP is looking for. They are designed to emphasize the low frequency tones in the exhaust; I just think the other components would negate most of the emphasis provided by the glass pack.

I don't know this as fact, but I believe glass packs are simply small diameter resonators with a straight-through exhaust flow. Since the diameter is small, there is not much sound absorbing material between the center pipe and its' shell. They could even have a small reflective cavity to emphasize the lows. Now you've stirred my interest; I'll have to investigate this weekend.

Put them on. Enjoy for a week, get annoyed by the drone, put everything back to stock. Same as the muffler delete guys.

Glass Packs may make it a bit louder in the low frequency range. It is hard to gage what you mean by sound better.

My opinions:
Do you want a more "muscle car" sound and rumble? Glass Packs will do that.
Do you want a smoother exhaust note? Vibrant resonators have a crisper/sharper note.
Do you want to lower the exhaust volume? A magnaflow or flowmaster muffler will do that. I believe both companies make straight-through and reflective (more restrictive) mufflers.

The longer a straight-through muffler or resonator the more noise attenuation there will be.

I assume you have a true dual exhaust setup....

It's your car. Do what makes you happy!

Personally I like the sound of a stock CLK500.

If I delete the secondary cats I am going to sound like an old chevy v8 . I heard a couple of v8s without cats and it sounds horrible

That's your opinion, but I believe that you'll get a much more Mercedes-style sound with a cat delete vs. glasspacks.

In high school we used to get them good and hot then feed a garden hose up the pipes and turn it on. It would break up the glass to get more RAAAASP!

I think the "glass" in glass packs refers to fiberglass.

They are generally made with a small pipe inside a larger pipe with fiberglass between the 2 pipes. Like the secondary cats and resonators in our cars, they can be "ported" to achieve greater noise cancellation due to turbulence; similar to what you get when the engine expels into the exhaust manifold (there is much less turbulence with headers).

Yep, and you break up that fiberglass and they get louder and more raspy. Great for a car with a 01 on the side, not so much for a Benz.

I ordered the 12" and 23" . I am going to have the muffler shop just clamp them on to see if I like it before I install them . I will upload a video

So what is the final verdict? What did you do? Did you just add the glass pack behind the muffler or in place of the muffler?

You do as it pleases you of course. Having heard a few modifyed MB exhausts recently at a car wash, I think it only makes the car sound like a bulldozer. Fine for a truck but a bit cheezy for a benz sedan

Flowmasters like the delta flow with big pipes sound real melow. When you are cruising they sound nice and mellow, but when you stomp it they roar pretty nice.
