Keyless Remote Unlocking

I have a 2005 CLK500 with the AMG Package. Bought it recently. I've already fixed the glove box issues and various other stuff. However, the keyless remote is another story. Here's what is going on and ANY help would be appreciated.
1. Infrared works fairly well. Sometimes have to push button a lot.
2. RF unlocking not at all.
3. Purchased a brand new remote from MB dealer programmed. Same problem.
4. Checked all the fuses including the trunk. All good however I believe there is no power connected to fuse 21 and 22 located on the fuse box by the dash.

AM and FM reception is amazing so likely not the antenna amplifier.

I'm gonna try another tester on those fuses again but something tells me the previous owner had an aftermarket system and its disconnected. If that's the case, how can I find out?

Sounds like maybe the antenna amp is dead. Try switching the key between global to local unlocking by pressing and holding both the lock and unlock buttons on the fob until its red indicator light blinks several times. Sometimes this can wake up the system. Double check fuse #8 (rear SAM panel).

Locking issues

VIN WDBTJ75J35F151695

Already tried that fuse. Nope.
Also, if it were the antenna amplifier why do I get amazing g radio reception?

The antenna amp can fail on RCL functions, but work fine with FM reception.

OK, so assuming it's the antenna amplifier, short of having MB take out the entire rear window and replacing it, what other options do I have? I've been told by some aftermarket professionals that adding a keyless remote system is not possible due to the way MB works. Thoughts?

The only thing I did not do was take a test light to the actual #8 fuse slot in the trunk. I'll check that today.

If the ATA siren works, then fuse 8 is good. Of course I know the RCL is not working, so it might be hard to test, but if you can, try the panic button, or lower the driver's door window, close the door, and lock with the fob. Then reach in and open the door. If the alarm sounds, fuse 8 is good.

OK tried that. Panic does not go off and tried the locking then reaching inside and unlocking and no alarm went off at all.

Tested 8 in the trunk. That works. Not removed ALl.the fuses below that and there's no power going to any of them from 9 down to 16. WTF?

Here's the fuse diagram:

http://benzbits.com/w203/RearFuses.pdf

Anything on circuit 30 should have voltage always. Circuit 15R is switched so it will only have power when the ignition is on. If this isn't the case, you may have a problem with the rear SAM.

I have a feeling that the previous owner had an aftermarket alarm installed and when that was done they messed with the wiring.
I removed the fuses from 9 down to 16 and used a test light and nothing. But #8 lights up. Would that be normal? Would think they would also light up with the car running, no?
Next question is this....I assume the alarm system not working would prevent the CLS from working correct?
In a way since this discovery it's now possible that the $1,500 rear window may be fine. However it will cost quite a bit of money to now diagnose this crap.

On another note do you know where I can order a replacement shifter leather boot and knob? The leather has tightened up and snapped the clip on the bezel

I am perplexed as to why fuses 9-20 have no power. If that's the case you'll have lots of problems, like the overhead control panel (lights, mirror, Homelink, etc), rear rollerblind, etc.

Overhead lights work. Rollerblind doesn't but it tries (I believe the motor is shot) overhead control panel for su roof and all that work OK. Im pretty much about to give up. If I want to solve the mystery of the CLS I'm gonna have to take it MB and get rammed with a big bill.

It works!

I read another post where the guy stuck his hand under the roof liner and messed around with the wires and it worked. Well......I decided I had nothing to lose so I did the same thing. I got my eyes on the amplifier and got my hands on all the wires and pushed on everything.
Assuming that didnt do jack, I got out of the car muttering the same words "I wonder how many times I'll have to push the button this time?" Well...Once. then I tried from far away and same thing. Lock and unlocking working flawlessly.
I can only PRAY that it stays this way!!!!

You have a bad antenna amp. Your fix may work for a few days, or years. Either way, "messing with it" is definitely cheaper and easier than replacement.

Exactly! I'll be grateful for every day that works. I just can't see spending $1,500 to replace the antenna amplifier.
i don't understand why a 3rd party installer can't put an aftermarket RCL in this car. I've been told by installers that actually own Beamers and Benzes that it can't be done. Why?

RCL is entirely integrated into the Drive Authorization security system, and that's why 3rd party systems can't tap into it. Or, if they could, the job would be expensive and complex to install.

I'm having similar issues. I had the car re-tinted last year and suddenly the key stopped working unless I was in close range of either the driver or passenger door. However, over time I'm noticing that it will take me sometimes 3-5 min standing near the driver or passenger door to unlock the car. Sometimes it works instantly and other times it takes multiple tries so its very intermittent. I often times have to use the metal key to unlock the driver door and open the car that way (this triggers the alarm so its not an ideal method) I checked fuse #8 and it is fine. Is there anything that I can do to help my situation? I don't want to replace the entire rear windshield.

@shark650 Welcome to MBWORLD! Please take a moment to visit the User Control Panel and update your profile to include your location (at least country). This information will then appear below your name and avatar on the left side panel next to each post you make. This will greatly help others to give you better information. If you are using the mobile version of the site, you will need to switch to the "full" version to get to the User Control Panel.

Not that this is the W209, CLK forum and you have a W211 E-Class, so you should visit that forum (https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w211-20/) for the best answers. I am not certain, but if fuse 8 on your car does control the antenna amp an ATA siren, and it keep blowing, then you your ATA siren is likely blown due to corrosion or its internal battery leaking. If so, I'd unplug it. It's located inside the left front fender, behind the wheel.
