How to enter engineering mode in COMAND

I am not sure you can do that in engineering mode. I know that you can do it in SDS (Star Diagnosis), but the issue is, where do you connect the backup camera? I retrofitted a camera to my SL550 but it has NTG2.5 and it has a video input on the back. I have heard of some people with MLs doing this with NTG2,but there must be a secret to connecting the camera.

I have seen videos on YouTube about adding the camera. The camera plugs into the back of the COMAND in the video port and you have to config it on the engineering mode menu to know the camera is there and to turn the display on in reverse.

Anyhow, I WAS a Comand expert a couple years back when put one and then another in my 2005.
I can tell you this, there are 2 very different ones in MOST CLKs. All about having "SERV" button versus "SYS" button.
The later one (2007-9) I never got into Engineering mode, but I'm pretty sure the earlier one I ended up with I can.
So even if you find advice from someone with a 2006 about how to get into this mode, it likely won't work for you.

Are you in the USA? If so, I don't believe there is a video port on the COMAND. There may be in other countries. BTW, please update your forum use'rs profile with your location and exact car model - this will help get better info.

I just went through this with my 09 CLK 550 and here is the gory details. There is not any input on the back of the command for a camera. I called my dealership they referred me to a local installer who spend a day researching the installation of a back up camera in my car and came to the conclusion that the only way was to change the head unit with a KENWOOD dnx773s with a 7 inch screen and Apple CarPlay. There are probably other units that would work but he recommended this one and I went with it. In addition to a backup camera he also installed 4 sensors in the rear bumper. The installation took 2 days and the following issues were encountered. The TPMS was inactivated and he determined it was caused by signal interference from the camera. He found a way around the problem. The other issue was the analog clock which is set using the command head unit. He was able to "T" into the installation with a pigtail that he routed into the glove box so that I can attach the old command unit and reset the clock for daylight savings and back again.
This installation was WAY above my skill level, there were several interfaces to match the new unit with the Mercedes electronics and steering wheel controls. I am very happy with the final results and would advise anyone interested in similar additions to their car to hire a professional and be prepared to part with some serious cash.
