USA pricing in 2003????
is there anyone out there who can give me a solid est on what the price of the 03 CLK320 should be this summer. i have done research on aprox what the mark up from the german list price to the US price on other models and it equals out to be about 18% added on top of most other models. now the raw list price in germany on an 03 320 is about $33,900 USD, with the 18% added on top of that it comes out to be right around $40,000(3 grand less than the old model) However i was reading an artical in road and track i believe, and it stated that mercedes was expecting the new clk to be a couple grand MORE than the old model!?!? so if anyone could shed some light on this please do so.

If memory serves, MBUSA usually sets prices around May or June. The problem with even estimating the W209's pricing has to do with the fact that Mercedes very much wants to move the model further up the product line in order to differentiate it from the C coupe. The best way to do this is to put in larger engines (hence the replacement of the 430 with the 500) and raise the prices on all models in the CLK lineup.

Your German price is correct (Link to price list), but without VAT!
I don't know what the US VAT is about... In Germany it's 16%.
So if you add to the official German price of 33.917,15 USD
your 18% of US "adjustment" and 16% VAT you've got
46.425,79 USD.
PS: the German price for the old model was without VAT 33.411,03 USD (CLK 320).

The prices in the UK have gone up by about £2000 GBP across the CLK range for the new model... I would estimate therefore, given cars are cheaper in the US that the UK, that this will equate £1 to $1 and that the US prices will rise by about $2000....

While well intentioned, your calculations are based on false assumptions. In the USA there is no VAT. US customs duty (Zoll) is around 8 %. To that you add transportation, PLUS whatever MB wants to!
Therefore I think that the BASE MSRP will be: 43-45k US$. To that come state & luxury taxes, another 3-4k.

Benny, great to hear from someone in Germany! By any chance do you know when the factory is going to stop producing W208 CLK's and begin producing W209's? I thought the factory would probably close to retool. I know it must be soon, but I'm not sure when.
