1st prob with wifeys clk
2005 clk 500 cabrio w/ 120k
gear shifter will not go past neutral from drive....cannot shift into reverse-park. theres some type of lock engaged in the shifter, but if she takes her foot off the brake pedal the lock is removed and it shifts as normal. also releases if the engine is cut off. there are no other symptoms, lights, etc.
so is this a brake switch problem, shifter problem, or something else possibly? a local m-b garage said it is the shifter can be replaced $1200ish. if it is the shifter is the unit plug and play, no programming necessary? if so i can get a used one from a salvage yard for $150ish.
