Suspension Refresh front and rear

164K on wife's 07 CLK350 so its well past time for a suspension refresh. What I wanted to know was if the front and rear springs use the same pads? I am getting a creaking sound from front end, already lubed sway bar bushing, and wanted to see if possibly from spring pad in front? Creaking noise is most of the time turning wheel when car is still. Now that I think about it, could be worn ball joints as well. Also getting creaking noise in rear going over speed bumps.

I am fairly certain the pads are totally different front and rear since the rear setup is a traditional shock and the front is a McPherson strut. Front end noises are usually either the anti-sway bar bushings, or the frame bushings for the torque struts (a.k.a. upper control arms). Ball joints rarely make any noises - they just get sloppy.

Here are the parts:

A2033200273 - Front bearing left/right (sits under the bumper)
A2033220344 - Front bumper left
A2033220444 - Front bumper right

For the rear shims, there are four possible part numbers:

A2103250184
A2103250284
A2103250384
A2103250484

The 9th digit represents the number of "burls" on the springs that the shims must match. To calculate the burls, you need to add up the point based on options installed in the car:

Hi, if you hear that sound when turning have you considered the top mounts of the shock absorbers were the spheres are they detiorate with time and do that cracking sound when turning. Control arms or tie rods usually do a metallic noise

Good point. I am replacing the strut mounts as well as the pads, control arms as well as the rods and sway bar links as well. Alot of miles on OE suspension so it's time. Car rides so rough now and is hard to enjoy. I remember when the car was new how the car was firm but soaked up bumps well. Can't wait to get to that point again

redciv1, regarding spring pads, the fronts on my clk550 did NOT have any spring pads. The rears had 2 burr pad on one side & 3 burr pad on the other. The pads are reusable but I replaced both sides with 2 burr pads & no issues.

Thanks 0zranvest. Can anyone else confirm whether MB used the pads in certain models? Looking to order parts this week.

You only changed the bushes in the control arm or you did a replacement of entire arm?

Probably the same kit I am looking at also. Going to change out struts first then arms...etc.

Sooo, finally getting around to the suspension. Starting on the rear first. Anyone know the size of the bolt and nut holding the lower control arm?
