20's On a CLK500?

Okay guys, going for a new look this summer, and since the roads near my house are practically brand new, I was thinking of playing with some big wheels... Now after seeing the CL55 at the Brooklyn meet, I am looking into buying the 20" Brabus Monoblock IIIs that are pictured on this CL55 AMG. Now, do you guys think I'd be able to fit 20" wheels on the CLK500? I plan on dropping the car with H&R Springs, and I plan on rolling out my fenders by Rogue Engineering in New Jersey. Has this been done before? W211 E-Classes can have 20's and Ive seen W208 CLKs with 20's as well...

Also, since the Brabus wheels are hard to find since they stopped making them, I am looking at my friend's iFORGED Technik's high polish off of his GS400.

What do you guys think? My CLK500 is Pewter, same color as the GS4.

MY CLK500 in the left bottom corner.

The CL500 looks SICKK w/the mono IIIs, IMO you should keep looking for a set (I don't think they are THAT hard to find, somone was selling a set of 20s on here recently and they're always popping up on ebay) if that's what you want, or go for another style of Brabus wheel or some other classy looking 20" wheel made specifically for mercedes...personally, I don't like the look of the Iforged wheel and I don't think they woiuld look right on your clk, just MHO....GL

I believe the rear should fit, but as for the front, you might need some major fender modification. I forgot when this was posted, but someone had 20' HRE on the w209. It was a black CLK. It looks pretty good from the pictures. If your into looks and dont really car about the drive, and how the 20's will drive your car, then go for it, but let me be the first to tell you, your handleing will suck.

Your handling will not suck, if they fit! no rubbing. I like the handling on my E. Makes me feel like i am driving my pops corvette he had when i was growing up. The way it tracks down the road. Just gives it a little more sportier feeling. IMO

If you missed it, there was some guy in Indonesia that showed pics of his CLK with 20s several months ago, but IMO it was a bit much. With my SP9000 235/35/19s, I have maybe a couple mm of clearance in the front (Ie, almost rubbing). I agree that you should skip them.

20" will fit in the back..

I have 20X10 in the back of my clk500. It fits without rubbing. You might be able to get the front to fit with 20" if you use coilover. If you just swap the spring, it will definitely not fit because the factory front spring cup will hit the wheel. I just recently switch to H&R coilover and will try to put 20X9 in the front.

That sounds nice and fairly easy to pull off; I don't think I've ever seen your car... To get the fronts to fit, it looks like you'd need to rip out all of the plastic protective material on the inside of the fender well and roll the fenders (not to gloss over the issues with springs; I have coilovers). But the back on my car looks like it has plenty of room (on my car, almost too much room). What size tires do you use? you got any pics? Which wheels?

pete423,

How is the handling of the car ? is the steering much more heavier than 18 17 or 16? more or less responsive?

I'm curious about the ride and handling on 19 and 20in... can you share with us?

Cheers

The handling is very good. The response is just as good as my original 17". And the handling limit are much too dangerous to explore on public streets. The only thing I need now is more power and brake... One small warning though, if you want to go with 19/20 setup, you should really get coilover since there will be height difference between front and rear. The size difference are about one inch between front and rear.
