thinking about selling my clk550
damn, i have been seeing a few clk63 cars going for sale close to 16k now? i am wondering if it is time to move up a bit? i love the chassis and always planned on upgrading.
i can move my helical lsd? and sway bars? brakes, 6/4 pot is already there? front lip, won't fit? wheels, won't look right?
i really need advice... what do you guys think? i got 130k now on ODO, and i have no issues with my car... basically i would be resetting the ODO back to like 70k, and possible trying a convertible model? may be try another color?

Whichever 6.3 amg you buy
1.check to make sure that the headbolts have been chnaged or the car came with upgraded headbolts.
2 check for the cam adjusters . If they got bad its expensive .
3. Make sure there is no valve ticking noises . And see if your engines was built with the new rockers and lifters.
There is a video on youtube about a guy showing everything to look out for on amg 6.3 cars. watch it before you buy

If it were me, I'd go with the tried and true 550 (2009), or maybe a 2011 E Class Coupe (the last year of the N/A V8 engine). If I wanted to get really crazy, I'd get a 2006 CL55, but I have a feeling that car would nickel and dime me to death (or $1K and $10K me to death lol). But that's just me. The CLK63 seems like a pretty cool car if the various issues could be mitigated for a reasonable price.

I would not own an M156 engine built before 2010 (so no CLK63). Unless all those problems have already been repaired, you are looking at spending almost as much as the car is worth if you have a shop do it. It's still expensive (and VERY challenging) as a DIY.
If you are a DIYer, I;d recommend the R230 SL. You can get an SL55 with about 500hp for cheap these days. Yes, you will have to do some maintenance on the roof mechanism and ABC, but otherwise, they are solid cars.

I briefly considered a 63 before I bought my 550, but after reading about the headbolt and other issues (and how much of a hassle and expense they were to fix), I opted for the 550. That, and I like the coupe way more than the convertible.

i put on so many miles, i feel like i wanna hit the reset button. ok... so currently my brain is saying 2 options right now
07 clk vert $12k with 57k miles same color. so i can move aero, lsd, brakes, suspension. enjoy the air a few years and go back to coupe while doing another milage reset?
08 bmw 550i MANUUUUUUUUUUUAL... $9k with 70k miles. lol... but need to start over with mods. open doors for other issues bmw related like electrical issues galore. 1000lbs heavier car.
*like the clk, the 5 series was a dream car i liked and never drove. clk... went to go see it and it fit like a glove to my mind so i bought it on the spot. i love the clk, but i do still want to try the 5 series once too.

i have done alot of work on my car so i am DIY friendly, but i got to have minimum 3 seats.... lol... family unit space.[QUOTE]
Then I would suggest getting rid of one or two of those extra family members. Or just leave them at home. They would probably interfere with your enjoyment of the SL anyhow.

If I where you I would go for a 2012 or later e550 . The engine is twin turbo and its the same one as the e63 except for the turbos . But with a tune you can get more HP than the clk and its only a little more expensive to buy but no crazy 6.3 engine issues .

Yes there both the same . Just made sure you get the 4.7L twin turbo v8 . 2012 and later if your looking to make big HP . The 2011 had the same 5.5l engine but no turbos . Ibwas looking for a convertible. Check out eurocharge website
stage 1 gets you 520 hp stage 2 gets you 580 hp . Thats with just a tune. If you chnage turbos etc well into the 800 hp .

NOPE! the 550i at the mercedes dealership is still going through inspection. i really need to sit in it to really decide. my clk is super comfy to me. so it has to be able to compete with that.

OK, after seeing your pics, I understand the need for a minimum of 3 seats! She's a real cutie!
Personally, I am not a BMW fan. I have had a few (an 80's 3 series and an X3). They just don't have the nice ride and comfort that MBZ offer, though I will say the seats int he X3 were very comfortable to me.
